have i lost touch with the rest of humanity?

Looking for a woman
can someone please explain to me how this is the #1 song in the country? has the entire universe shifted such that what was once considered crappy is now celebrated as brilliant? or is it the case that my perception become so unhinged from reality that i no longer can relate to others? perhaps my bafflement is a byproduct of getting old?

here is a link to the song with lyrics, so you can follow along.
fireflies

i don't know about that nonsense man, i still listen to cd's that i bought as replacements for my tapes, and the records that preceded them. that reminds me, time for a new needle. and i'm only 33. i guess we park our cars in the same garage uga.

Also, that video bothers me, because in the typing of the lyrics, they capitalize all the words in the song. Almost all except EARTH... which I believe is one of the only proper nouns in the song, which REQUIRES to be capitalized. Grammar police are on their way.

PS:

"I'd get a thousand hugs from ten thousand lightning bugs..."

So this isn't saying much but apparently only 1 in 10 bugs want to hug this $#$% bag. Just saying.

That sounds like someone took 'The Postal Service' and turned it inside out.

Except this singer obviously has no sense of rhythm and/or timing whatsoever. And added excessive amounts of modulation to their 'wee todd ed' voice to make it audibly acceptable. I blame everything from 1998 and onwards for this ****.

It sounds the same, but like a retard is narrating his dream.

LOL!!!

I dunno. It's bland, inoffensive and pretty much character-free. Don't see why anyone would love it, hate it, or feel strongly about it, in any particular way...

His other work, from his first CD is MUCH better than Fireflies, for some reason it seemed like he just became a 4 yr old and wrote this.

I love his other work, but not fireflies

Wow, that does sound like the Postal Service (whom I also like very much).

This is why I don't listen to radio. I wouldn't say I hate this song, but #1 in the country? I guess the pre/teen female crowd is indeed a force to be reckoned with.

I feel so sorry for kids today, all of the newer pop music just sucks hard. How come there were good pop songs all of the way up until about the early 90s? Then pop music just went into the garbage and never re-emerged.

Whoa... So I wasn't the only one that thought the singer sounds like he's got a retarded lisp.

So here was I listening to my The Postal Service station on Pandora, driving to work and BAM! the Fireflies song comes on. Needless to say, it's blocked.

I think the craze is pretty ridiculous, but one of our old DVXusers "endeavor" made the video for that song and it is now #1 on Vh1, so i say good for them.

i think miley cyrus is more of a problem to worry about.
