Guys @ 3pm today I finally decided to buy the Canon 70-200 F4 IS over the Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS II because:

1 - I decided that I will probably be using it outdoors more than indoors for Sports
2 - I would save the 900euro or so towards getting a good Miller Tripod

However @ 6.30 pm I remembered (because it Has been a very stressfull few months for personal reasons) that I had already bought a heliopan Variable filter for 220euro which is 77mm as is the Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS II.

The Canon 70-200 F4 IS is 67mm which would now cost me an extra 220euro for a 67mm heliopan (need these for video outside).

I have contacted the seller to say I want to cancel and upgrade to the F2.8 IS II because he is the seller with both.

Should I formally cancel or await his response.

It is Standard Int'l Postage.
Can he cancel with the courier if it has left His Premises enroute before it gets to the ferry from England to Ireland or has it got to be sent to me to send back?

I need the Lens for the 15th June and am afraid this mistake is going to cost me my deadline.

regards and thanks in advance.

^ that (but I use $2 step-up rings from ebay)

the only downside is that the hood won't fit (you can use a matte box, or a screw-in rubber hood)

I own a 70-200mm F/2.8L USM IS II & while it's probably the best lens that I own am seriously considering downsizing to the F/4L version as it weighs a ton & is very bulky. I use it with a 5D3 & at F/2.8 on the full frame the DoF is fine for tight head shots but can be challenging when framing two heads & as I mainly shoot weddings this is a downer. The money that I get from selling the F/2.8 would go towards upgrading the last of my 5D2s to a 5D3. However I would love to hear some opinions on this. Has anyone regretted getting the F/4 over the F/2.8?

Thanks for the reply guys.

I had a 20D, Sigma 8mm fisheye, Canon 50mm 1.4 and a Canon 20-70 F/2.8L.

Recently I bought a 5D3 for photos and Video and may buy a second body or buy a Canon C100.
Everyone says invest in Glass so:

I sold the Sigma 8mm fisheye and Canon 24-70 F/2.8L.
I had earmarked the 24-70 F/2.8L II, the 70-200mm F/2.8L USM IS II and the 100mm F/2.8L Macro IS which will cover most of my needs for Photos and Video which will mostly be Sports.

I will answer your query nigel when I have had mine for a while.

I had the original 70-200 f2.8 used it for a lot of studio protraiture and found I rarely opened up to f2.8 except for theatre shows (which I do not shoot very often). The lens is heavy to handhold all day so I moved to the 70-200 f4 IS. This lens is lighter and optically better than the original f2.8, so I see it as an upgrade. The choice between the new f2.8 and the f4 came down to the new f2.8 costing $1,000 more. The two lenses are very close optically and the f4 is lighter. So I do not regret the decision. F4 is plenty shallow on full frame anyway if you need it.

Regarding the vari-nd, you will like having a step-up ring on your filter. Since the filter will be larger than the lens you can easily adjust the filter while shooting and not risk your fingers being in the frame. So I say f4 all the way.

sorry....I left out what I meant to type which was they were able to upgrade me to the 70-200 F/2.8L II after.

I suppose I need the exercise anyway so will be happy with it.

Thanks lads.

You can't go wrong with the MKII, it is about the best zoom lens you can get...unless you need to handhold for long periods of time. :)
