Hasselblad H6D - Medium Format, 4K raw video

With or without video, it would always be expensive... But it is "cheap" compared to any other medium format video option that shoots 15 stops, raw.. (Arri 65 is only rentable, right?)

I own the h5d 50c and it's amazing. True 16bit stills are just so lush. 280trillion colors. 14 bit raw is 4 trillion colors. Worth every penny.

Any chance of this showing up in like a Pentax 645Z Mark II? That $32K price tag is pretty rough but understandable for the sheer massive leap over the competition.

Can I shoot weddings with this? And what about shooting a no-budget feature film in available light? I can't afford to buy a lighting kit.

The pentax is a 14 bit capture. Unless they up the next version to 16bit capture, doesn't matter. Not sure how many of you have ever squired in 16 bits. When you do, even 14 bits is really tough to look at. 12 bit even worse and so on. If this hasse captures 16 bit raw 4K which they claim, it will be mind blowing. Add to that the glass. Not even Zeiss could produce the glass hasse asked of them. The glass is truly amazing. I can't wait to get my hands on this new hasse and try it out. Not gonna buy it right away, but it has me very excited. From a stills guy, 12 and 14 bit is how you guys see 8 bit 420.

this looks like the same 100mpix sony sensor phase one is using....leica has 4K video in their S medium format camera but it is a very small crop....i imagine it is the same here...
pentax will probably get the same sensor sooner or later, fuji has been rumored for a while to come out with a MF body....maybe sony decides to join in....
either way: there are plenty of tests out there showing that A7rII files compare well with the 50mpix MF files at base iso....at higher iso the sony keeps pulling away....not considering slow shooting, slow AF and of course the 10:1 price of body and lenses....
i am sure this new 100mpix sensor if pretty amazing but we all know from the latest sony e lenses that we will see a 35mm FF sensor with similar resolution (70-80mpix) pretty soon....
i used to own phase backs when it made sense because the image was better....nowadays...not so sure.....at least this new 100mpix sensor is actually 645 format (and not smaller like all others before) but in the days of film 645 was the smallest MF format and just a step up from 35mm.....for a real MF "look" 6x7, 6x8, 6x9 gives a better option and we will most likely never see sensors that size....
i do miss the lens shutter lenses though....

i think the 32K price is for the "old" 50mpix model....the 100mpix is probably more like 50K like the same model phase one back/camera....
pretty sure pentax will get the 100 mix sensor as well....every company has their own way of getting a file from the same sensor though....

just saw that the price is 33K which is 18K cheaper then the phase one with the same sensor! i guess we will see a massive price drop on that one pretty soon!

No Paul. The Sony stuff in the a7 series or ANY dslr don't and can't hold a candle to the 16bit cmos hasse backs. They just don't. Again, 14 bit color sees about 4 trillion colors. 16bit sees 280 trillion colors. Then there is the glass on the hasse H series. Combine the two and all the dslrs are just toys.

i don't want to argue what you can see or not....i do agree that there can be a visible difference between 12 and 14bit files, there is a lot of discussion about 14 vs 16bit (and if actual 16bit capture is even possible) and i don't have the technical knowledge and if you can see a difference who am i to disagree with you?
but i am also not a big fan of hasselblad lenses, i would prefer schneider, especially when it comes to MF....the schneider lenses for the rollei(flex) where always my favorite along with the Fujis MF (for the 6x8 or the fixed ones on their 6x9)...
i think it is great that they still keep pushing this forward but they lost me as a customer a long time ago....
these camera do get rented out a lot, especially on big jobs....but in the end the files providing the actual final images always seem to come from the canons or nikons on set....

Paul, the new H lenses are made by fuginon. They are tailored to the system and are incredible. The color accuracy on the hasse backs are so outstanding. No 14 bit dslr can even approach it. Same with the phase backs. The Pentax MF is 14 bit. It's pretty good, but not like hasse or phase. This new back will probably destroy my current back.

I guess you you would have to see a lightjet print side by side of hdslr vrs 16bit MF to really understand and appreciate the difference. I use hdslr from time to time and it's really hard for me to do so. I have lots of ad agencies that won't accept anything less than the 16bit capture.

I dont care how many mp's an hdslr gets, be it 100 mps, it won't be able to compete with a 50 mp MF 16 bit back.

Anybody arguing if 16bit is even possible is just trying to justify shoot with their current hdslr. End of story.

wasn't aware that the lenses are fuji now! thanks for that info....
also just found out that the price is actually 33K which makes phase look a little silly...
either way interesting times!
still can't find any real detail on the 4K video....raw hasselblad video format? or DNG? they do talk about 30fps live-view....4K raw video from the entire sensor at 15stops DR sounds unbelievable to be honest....

Blackmagic raw is 16bit also.
Big fan of medium format look. Would love to see some videos! Very exciting, hope they show it off at NAB :D
