For own use I am evaluating Sony a6000 to use for still photos but also for video along with my video camera (Panasonic AG HMC40). I have no experience with DSLR and my frame of reference is my HMC40. Since a6000 does not have an external mic jack I thought I would need to use a separate audio recorder for video when I wanted better audio, and then sync audio and video in post. However, Sony tech said I could use their ECM XYST 1M external mic attached to the camera hot shoe and it would record directly onto video. Since I have only attached external mics to video cameras using camera external mic jack I just wonder if hot shoe can be used as Sony tech described it and if there are other mic options that would connect to camera via hot shoe?
