Has anyone upgraded the HPX viewfinder?

I think the weight of the 500 is perfect. You also have to keep in mind that the smaller you make a camera the more expensive the components inside are going to be. When you make things smaller its harder to make, and you make sacrifices for such things. You also run into another very bad situation.... Heat distribution.

Larger cameras don't have the problem of overheating like a smaller compact unit that cant allow space between components within. When you have all that heat from a sensor, mixed with the heat of processor and then battery, and media, and cables, you end up with a very good chance of running hot. I can leave my 500 on all day in the 100 degree weather for weeks and not worry about it overheating... If you make it compact you will not be able to do that.

RED overheats for just this reason, the components give off tons of heat while operating and since they wanted a small compact unit, it suffers from that restriction.

Heck even the new iPhone 4 has an overheating issue. Any tech that you limit its space, you end up with heat issues. When you space it out like in a full size ENG camera, you never have to worry about anything. This is more for reliability, not about designing a camera you can look over, because that camera is worth nothing if you can look over it, but it won't turn on because its overheated.

ENG cameras are their size for many reasons and they will most likely stay that way for years to come.

I bought one one E-bay for 450 (bin) it's off a 900 I think. I had to drill two holes in the mount to make it work and it sets into the handle just like the 1.5 did. A good machinist can do the job for you if you don't think you can. I know have a 2" finder with articulation (for and aft) and focusing is easier, not to mention the big 16x9 view. I saw another one on there just recently so go fishing.
