Has anyone tried this Blackmagic Ursa Mini EVF Mod for the F35?

For all the gurus out there... would there be a way to hook this up to the EVF outputs of the F35? I know it can be on the SDI, but wondering if you could use the evf to sub something like the c30rw?

You would only get what is fed out of the "monitor" out SDI or the like. You probably wouldn't get things like zebra, etc. The Sony VF's use proprietary cables and connections and certain VF options/info is only displayed through that connection(like tally, too). That's one of the advantages of using a cameras "native" VF vs a third party. Plus it's usually a much more elegant solution. One cable for power, signal and control.

I'm not sure if the Blackmagic has monitoring features built-in to the EVF itself, I seem to recall that they mostly come from the camera itself (someone correct me if I've got that wrong).

If so, that would limit its functionality quite a bit.

I'd recommend the Zacuto Gratical Eye with the F35. Gives you LUTs, waveform, frame guides, 1:1 pixel zoom, false colour, peaking - everything you'd want in a EVF. And it's fully compatible with the camera's output signal.

The Sony F35 viewfinder port is a proprietary pin-out, but the video standard used is component HD. Theoretically you use a converter box to adapt the component HD to SDI for modern viewfinders. I don't know much about the Sony viewfinder port though. The component output may not be "always on", and may only activate if there is a data connection established with the viewfinder on the other pins. If so, you'd likely need some sort of processor board to emulate the sony viewfinder data connection.

It is probably more practical to use one of the monitor outputs instead. Many of the overlays can be sent to the monitor outs.
