Has anyone tried 7Q 1080p Derived from 4k signal yet?

Hey all,

Just got my 7q and I'm loving it so far! Although we really need some compressed codecs, those SSD's fill up really fast ;) I'm curious if anyone has tested/used the 1080p output derived from 4k Mitch was talking about a few days back. I believe in order to use it you need a recorder like the hyperdeck from the output SDI. I would test it myself but I havent got the FS700 codec for the 7q yet and dont have an extra recorder yet. But if it works well I'm considering picking up a hyperdeck and recording 10-bit prores until the codecs become available in the 7q.

If anyone got or gets a chance to test this out I'd love to hear your thoughts on it

Cheers

Thanx for reminding me. I just ran a late day test shot with a Pix 240 recorder recording to DNxHD 220 10-bit. The Pix verifies that I'm getting a 10-bit signal. Picture looks amazingly clean....did a rudimentary color grade to check the robustness. Hard to tell with this quick test, but, it seemed really compliant without the noise issues experienced with 8-bit. More later.

Please note that you do not need the FS700 option to view any signal from that camera. The option key enables our recording functions. So you can switch your Odyssey7Q to the FS700 RAW option right now and it will function in DEMO mode, which means that if you record then that file will have a blue line watermark through the image. As the 4K-to-HD monitoring conversion is not currently recordable within the Odyssey7Q anyway, you essentially get this for free.

Happy Festivus!

Ah, didn't even think of that, I'll definitely have to try it out. Thanks Mitch

Further testing is showing a LOT of color fringing....green and red fringes, related to the poor quality of the Sony SELP18-200 lens. Using a higher quality Canon lens eliminates the fringing.

Here's a bitmap screen grab....
Signal path is 4k out of FS700->O7Q set to 4k display->Pix240 set to DNx220x->Resolve 10 Lite Graded for legal limits->dowrezzed for JPG file to upload (which is too bad because it loses a lot of its crystal clarity)
