Hey guys and gals, I'm a film student and I'm in my documentary film making class and was wondering if you can help me with a couple of questions that I have. I'm the camera operator for this shoot. Like the title states I'm wondering if anyone has shot some footage on a hot air baloon? What kind of scene file settings were used? Can I see footage? Also what kind of scene file settings would you guys use for a sun rise situation? and of course its being shot on a HVX 200

Hi josedla,

I shot news packages for the 2004 "World Hot Air Balloon Championship" when it came to my region, I found them very easy to shoot if the light is great, if it's early morning or late afternoon that's the challenge to the cam op.
I used a larger camera than the DVX200 , (SPX800), but if you initially use your screen and manual iris their should be no issues. good thing about ballons is that they are so slow you have time to relocate and set up another shot, and there's always many colours to fill the screen against a usually interesting sky line background.
A great sight to see 60-70 ballons at low level doing touch n go's etc. PM me and i'll send you a pic n movie.

Cheers

We have had a change in camera because of school insurance purposes. We are going to michigan for the shoot so with that reason we are using a different camera. It is the HVX200 not the 200a.I would still like to see what you guys have out there. I am the camera operator and I'm just trying to do some research before I actually shoot the documentary.
