Has anyone on here intercut GH13 footage with GH2 footage seamlessly yet?

I am filming a short with a GH13 and a GH2 and today I synchronized all the film settings on both cameras and ran a test and the color on the GH2 looks different from that on the GH1. Both cameras are set to "Standard" mode, 1080p 24, 100 ISO on the GH13 and 160 ISO on the GH2, Noise Reduction all the way up and everything else set at "0". Is there any way to get the image colors to match or will I have to do it in post? Also, why does the GH13 100 ISO look brighter than the GH2's 160 ISO?

I want to know also the answer because I might boughted gh13 to match my gh2. I planning on mounting both of them side by side .

I played with this a little bit. I MAY still have the files. I had a GH2 on my music video set "In Luv with You" but... I had the same issue with color that you are talking about... you can not just set them to the same settings.. the two cameras just see color slightly differently... you have to just keep tweaking and a/b ing on the same monitor till you get color and sharpness as close as you can.. and you may and most probably will have to do some tweaking and color correction / grading in post to get them to match perfectly.

I wussed out and just shot in black and white.

No one has, everyone is still doing tests shooting grass and bushes.
haha +1

I just finished shooting a short piece with a 5D, GH13, and GH2. You spend a little time tweaking, and you can get them to look great together... if not in the field, then definitely doable in post.

Not true. I had it on a real set, but is was a 4th camera, so I ended up not really needing it.

Compared footage with your music video vs Mike Kobal's music video he shot with the GH2. Your GH13 footage looked incredible. On the other hand, his video looked horrendous, not sure because it was handheld, but it was extremely jittery, didn't understand why everyone on vimeo got excited about it. (Terrible editing as a matter of fact as well)

Don't see any need to rush out and get the GH2 now and dump my GH13.

Let's not rip on people's attempts here... no one likes it, the mods don't like it, and it starts flame wars and just generally upsets everyone. Everyone is advancing at their own level and we compete with only ourselves. So while I thank you for your comments on what you have seen so far of my video - we don't have / need / nor should we trash talk other's work. There are a LOT of variables that happen before you see the pixels moving on your screen... he could have encoded this video one of several million different ways.. who knows what the master looks like. I took a look at it and first off I can tell you it's at 720p so of course it's not going to look as good as my stuff at 1080p (twice the resolution even if a lot of that resolution is AVCHD errors it LOOKS damn like real resolution to me- GOOD!)

I am a pixel peeper quality nut and have found the absolute most stunning output from the GH13 is with 24pn checked, max bitrate of about 55mbit... low 24, mid 42 or 44... gop 12, edited natively in Edius 6 or Sony vegas 10 - but ALWAYS mastered using Sony Vegas 10s mp4 encoder. MainConcept's is doo doo in comparison as well as Premiere CS5s and anything I can get working out of Apple but again I'm not an Apple dude.. but I do know that going to prores first zaps just a tad bit of quality out, and so does going to cineform.

I also do know that the GH13 to MY eyes is better looking in wide shots with fine detail. Said that many times really no need to repeat. Most normal humans will be more than impressed with properly handled GH2 footage though. I am not jumping to it because I don't have much of a need. This particular video that you posted just doesn't look like it was encoded very well, there's a lot of noise, macroblocking... ect that makes my skull itch, but most regular folks don't notice that. Also he compressed WAY too much meaning he's got 3 and a half minutes at 165 megs where as with some of my crispest vimeo encodes I am flying at anywhere from twice to 6 times that data rate. Also it's not just the GH2 is a mix of cameras and a lot of it is out of focus.

PLUS.. he did not check the vimeo secret button.

Thanks for the input guys. Looks like I have a lot of testing and tweaking to do. I'm heading out to Death Valley on Monday for a two day shoot. I'll be shooting a dream sequence for my short and instead of shooting with the GH13 and the GH2, I am going to just shoot with the GH2. I bought the GH2 for two reasons... First, because I have my GH13 set to native 24 1080p with a high bitrate, it freezes most of the time (not all the time) whenever I shoot wide shots at f9 and above. I also bought it so I can shoot in low light at high ISO's without the FPN banding. As a side note, the GH2 can also do native 24 1080p without the pulsing (seen in the out of focus background and in dark and shaded areas on my GH13) that my GH13 at native 24 1080p creates. I wish I had your magic "Made in Japan" GH13, Blackout! Hahaha! Nice "Raiders of the Lost Ark" spoof at the Denver airport, by the way!

By the way, I noticed that the GH13 at correct exposure (according to the meter on the camera) is brighter than the GH2 at correct exposure (again, according to the meter on the camera). Anyone else notice this? The GH13's 100 ISO seems brighter than the GH2's 160 ISO!

I'm working on some interview footage right now that has my GH2 and GH1 (no hack) footage intercut.
They match very well. I'll post up a link when it's done, but it may be a week or two.

Thanks, iHartVideo. I look forward to seeing the clip. What settings did you use on both cameras? Are they both on the same film setting... both on Standard or Nostalgic, etc.? Or are they on different film settings? Is the brightness of the image the same at proper exposure on both cameras or is the GH2 image a little darker?
