Has anyone distributed their film through this before?

You have to pay upfront.

Yeah... which generally is never a good idea. HOWEVER, the charge here seems kinda reasonable and from what I've read about getting films on Netflix and itunes, if they can actually do it it may not be so unreasonable.

I would love to hear other thoughts on this for sure!

yea thats always a red flag for me.... but it says:

Distribber charges a one-time fee for store placement; no back-end fees. You keep 100% of your revenues. If iTunes declines your film, we'll refund your money minus $39 for processing.
but my question is ....what is the fee? they say they will return the fee plus $39 processing fee....but they dont actually mention how much you pay initially for this one time store placement fee.

Their FAQ:

What does it cost me?

iTunes:
If you are delivering just one film to iTunes, there is a one-time charge of $1295, which covers all the encoding, chapter breaking, tagging, and general caretaking that we’ll do to usher your film to full iTunes compliance and placement in the iTunes store.
After that, there is a flat annual service fee of $79 per film. The first year’s service fee is included in your $1295.

the fee is $1295. real world cost for digitization to iTunes' specs is about $300 to $400. The upfront fee covers that, so you're paying them the difference for the service of submitting to iTunes and managing it thereafter. other digital aggregators will charge about $500 to $600 in fees and take it our of your revenue before taking the agreed upon cut of 30% to 15% of your revenue. They will also do a little promotion of your title. with distribber you pay that fee upfront so they can do the work if its accepted and in exchange you keep 100% of the revenue it generates. but they do no promotion or marketing. essentially it works the way tunecore does for music.

a top selling indie on iTunes with no names in the cast will do about $3,000 to $6,000 each quarter for the first two quarters, then tapering down from there. thats an absolute best case scenario. a poorly performing title will do less than $500 per quarter.

I've decided to go with an aggregator for Heart of Now and White Knuckles because we found a company who is excited to do a lot of publicity on our behalf. That being said, I know Adam Chapnick who runs Distribber (now owned by IndieGoGo) and he is filmmaker-friendly and totally transparent about everything. I know what i know about Distribber because I asked him to come to my office one day to discuss it. The furthest things from a rip-off.

Yes, it is good info.

Thanks for the thorough post Zak. Good luck with your two titles.
