GH3 has anyone been using the GH3 battery grip yet???

Is anyone using the GH3 battery grip yet and if so, what are your thoughts?

Still unavailable on B&H but you can find it on Ebay, Adorama, and Amazon for $300.

I have the grip and love it! Got it from Samy's a couple of weeks ago. I am coming from Canon 7D, 5D world with grips so makes the GH3 more manageable for me. Grip takes one battery while other is in camera and you can set which battery is used first. I have mine to use grip battery first so I can switch to in camera battery while changing grip battery. Have 4 batteries total.

Is the grip magnesium, like the GH3 itself?

Is there any way you could weigh the grip, and weigh one of the batteries for me? I'm trying to guesstimate what my glidecam setup will be like with the GH3 and the weights I've found listed online for each don't seem right. Thanks!

The grip feels plastic but robust to me. It's nice to have but I do think the price is excessive, my advice as an owner, is wait until the price drops unless you'll benefit from it.

does the grip allow for a external battery 7.2Vdc input jack on the side so you can use other batteries that are 7.2Vdc?

Thanks Paul

does the grip allow for a external battery 7.2Vdc input jack on the side so you can use other batteries that are 7.2Vdc? Also, the DMW-DCC12 DC Coupler for Lumix GH3 appears to have a female socket on a short lead that could take a external battery ( I am guessing that it would be 7.2Vdc) - do you think this would work and thus eliminating the AC Adapter DMW-AC8 adaptor.

Thanks Paul

I bought my grip back in December. I like a heavy camera when shooting hand-held, as the extra inertia helps when trying to get sharp hand held still photo shots, and makes it easier to shoot vertical head-shots of people.

For video work, the only real benefit is double the battery power, which translates to 5-6 hours of shooting.

I would definitely recommend the grip for still photo work.

DMW -BLF19PP battery weighs 77g
DMW-BGGH3 Battery grip weighs 194.8g
No external sockets on the grip - Panasonic says it is splash and dustproof
Prices are dropping - Amazon has it for 278

I love it because I have big hands
