Harry Potter III

Re: Harry Potter III

I find the Harry Potter phenomenon extremely Interesting. Have not seen the movies or read the books. I have read several times how they are "too dark" or "too evil" or "too deep" for kids. Does not seem to be children's material... But, saw a few fluff bios on Rowling's "rags to riches" stuff (which is a pretty cool story) and the one thing that really caught my attention was how she stresses that the books *are* for children and how she feels children are "far more sophisticated then people give them credit"

Other then friends/family kids I don't have any hands-on experience... But I have without a doubt seen some pretty incredible thought processes out of the little buggers. I sometimes wonder if at that *untainted age* they don't have an incredible ability to comprehend far more visually & subconscious then maybe a more mature mind....

Parents, please don't burn me at the stake - Just thinking out loud :-/

Re: Harry Potter III

IT's all true. At 3 1/2, my daughter is very quick. She figures tons of stuff out for herself, has a firm grasp on what is real and what is imaginary (most of the time), and says things that leave me assured that very little gets by her. And I don't think she's exceptional. Most kids are that way.

Re: Harry Potter III

No, her tastes are not quite that refined. Although she gets points for understanding a lot of the humor in SpongeBob ;D

Me thinks the same was said about Wizard of Oz ... and even Bedknobs and Broomsticks! When it comes to books and films that use magic you will have the nuts falling from the tree trying to hit normal functioning people on the head! (Some even like to use baseball bats to try to get their point across. And it is always interesting to attend a marshmallow roast accompanied by the smell of burning books.) Alas and alack - there seems to be a lack of mental process on the part of many when it comes to the subject of Harry Potter! :'(

When and where was the last book burning you heard wind of?[/quote]

Check out this link to the American Library Association for one example. I figured this one may carry more weight since it is from an unbaised organization. Oh, and personally, the last book burning I personally heard of was when the last HP book came out - in front of a chuch about 2 miles from my house.

You are probably lucky enough to live somewhere other than on the Buckle of the bible belt! ;D Luckily, it is only a few out of many that do things like that, but it is enough to be scary. In fact, we just had another bruhaha with our library system - the library PTB banned "America" because they were "offended" that the Justices heads were superimposed on nude bodies. However, the book is back on the shelf in all our local libraries today because too many people complained about a few trying to dictate to the many. Fun, huh? :P

Re: Harry Potter III

I personally loved the movie and the look of Azkaban. Michael Seresin is a fantastic cinematographer....

Actually, I live in Charlotte.

Re: Harry Potter III

Okay, I've never seen the movies or read the books, but I saw Shaun of the Dead which has that one guy who looks like Harry Potter!!j/k ;D

Seriously though, one observation: Do all storylines in the books take place pretty much around the same time, with a young Harry? I mean, it looks like by the time they make a fifth one, the actor who plays Harry might be old enough to drink. I think they need to shoot these films LOTR/Back to the Future style--all at once to keep Harry young.

Re: Harry Potter III

And then, if she's smart, she will kill him off! Otherwise people will bug her to write another Harry Potter book until the day she dies.
