Harry Potter III

Lost something that the other two had.

I dunno . . . it was choppy, disjointed, dark (both in tone and in appearance), and a little depressing. The color palette was dingy and the acting was flat.

Re: Harry Potter III

Interesting, I actually liked this one best of all three. I found the first two to be a strict catalog of the books. I thought the third was the first to actually feel like a film. I liked the dark tones and edginess of it as well...but maybe that's cause I'm depressed.

Re: Harry Potter III

that and because they got Alfonso Cuarón to direct. On which he said that he was trying to keep the story but also tell the story of what its like to be 13 yrs old. the guy is very organic with his films.

Re: Harry Potter III

This was the only one I actually liked outright. The first one sucked, end of story. The second one was okay. The third one rocked. First time in the whole series so far that I actually cared about the characters or the story, and I'm a big fan of the books.

Re: Harry Potter III

I agree wih everyone else. Loved the third one. I liked the second one too. Don't really remember the first one. But it will only get better acting wise, as they are maturing and getting more experience

Re: Harry Potter III

I have to admit, guys, I really don't see what you're all seeing. The story was slow in pace and was mostly pretty obvious. I didn't think the acting was appreciably better and the lighting was really dark and grey. Not a whole lot of "magic" to it.

You're not missing out. Read the books. That's what you're missing out on. As long as you're even a little bit in touch with your inner child, they're great stories.

Re: Harry Potter III

the imdb shows that there will be a harry potter 4 and 5. ugh. no more please.

Re: Harry Potter III

ok..I just saw this one. I definitley liked this one the most. But I have a question and the question might be a spoiler...so...

SPOILER........is that how you spell it? for some reason that doesn't look right.....

........Ok....when harry and cirus black first met in that old house/shack thing....cirus was all for killing harry....and then suddenly reveiled the rat guy, peter, and cirus was suddenly harrys best friend. WTF?

Sirius was never a threat to Harry as Sirius was set up by Peter Pettigrew, aka, "rat guy", aka Scabbers.  From the time Sirius escaped from Azkaban he was trying to prove his innocence - that he was not the one who turned on Harry's parents.  There were several things in the book that weren't in the movie that would have made the movie easier to understand.  But the important thing about Sirius:
*He was not out to kill Harry at all, it was a setup to try to bring the real culprit forward.
*He never harmed Harry or his family in any way - it was  Peter that was with Voldemort.
*He is still being hunted because there is no proof of his innocence, thanks to Peter/Scabbers escaping.
*He is Harry's godfather, a role he can't assume openly, but he can help from the sidelines (see next book).

Hope this helps!  If you are really interested in the Potter series, I'd suggest getting the books.  They are wonderful!

Re: Harry Potter III

I love the books, and I like the movies. The first 2 were a bit dull, but I liked seeing the books come to life. I think the cast was good, although I think all 3 of the movies give Ron short-shrift. He comes across as a whiny nit, and he's a funny, resourceful (if a bit addled) kid in the books.

The 3rd one was tough for me. I thought the acting was better (especially Hermione) but didn't like some of the look of it. I've only seen it twice, so it's nothing I can put my finger on yet. I do agree it was a bit dark, but that's not quite what bugs me. I do hate those fades Cuaron uses, like old silent fims. Very distracting to me.

I'm hooked on Harry. The movies don't come close to the books (no movie ever has, IMHO) but I find them good fun. THe core of the books for me is the relationships between the characters, and that part of the films works.

and they were suggestiing to kill the rat (peter) not harry.

edit: oops....for got the spaces at the end of the spoiler. sorry. my bad.

Re: Harry Potter III

I liked the film, but I was confused throughout the last 1/3 of the movie or so. I had to take a wiz, held as long as I could, and finally jolted to the mens room. When I came back I found out they basically explained the entire mystery while I was gone. :-/

Damn half pepesi, half diet Pepsi... :D

Re: Harry Potter III

I hate harry potter - the books, ofcourse!

I'm more of a LOTR guy, anyways...

I always felt Harry Potter was too much of a convoluted story, kinda like Metal Gear Solid 2 on steroids, i read the first one and this is what it felt like:

Harry: Oh ****, we're going to die, wait I have a special can of anti gravity spray! (Sprays) Oh hell, don't worry that it wasn't established that I had it earlier in the book, its british! Anything can happen

Redheaded kid: I am red headed, and therefore am zany and wild, as is the stereotype for people who look as I do! Marketing bliss! Tee hee!!

Ok, good game ;D

My sentiments exactly!

Personnaly I was rather disapointed with the new direction

I heard the director was trying to keep up Harry Potter fans who are now getting older and that's why he made it darker

My 2 cents; The first two seemed to reach all ages anyway, why mess with it?

Re: Harry Potter III

If you've read the books they progressively get a little darker with each one.

Re: Harry Potter III

Everyone says that, including me. BUt now I question it. THe first book opens with the backstory of murder, and moves into borderline child abuse. That's before the story really gets started. I've read all the books (some more than once) they don't really get darker in incident; perhaps in quantity.
