Hardware/Software: what to buy?

I'm looking for a laptop to bring with me on shoots to digest p2 cards. I'd also like to eliminate my homemade SD monitor from my shoots... so I have a few questions...
What are the limitations of Adobe OnLocation with an HVX? Are there other software/hardware solutions? What's the longest run of cable I can use?

I would even settle for a SD connection that played back windowed in a laptop. What are my options?

Oh... I almost forgot. It seems PCMCIA is almost dead. Am I going to have to settle for a duel adaptor or can someone reccomend a laptop model that still has PCMCIA?

Toshiba Satellite P25-s5262 with 3 gig cpu, win xp service pack 2. Has two PCMCIA slots.

Worked out real nice for me. Once the p2 cards are filled, just pop it in and the laptop sees it right away. You can start editing from there or transfer it to a hard drive and BAM! start editing.

I tried Edius Broadcast and it handles MXF files the way it is. However, to get real time on the Laptop you will have to convert the MXF to Edius HQ.

I tried transferring p2 files from the cards to xternal drives on the laptop and it works without a hitch. NO MORE CAPTURING, JUST TRANSFERING...that's a beautiful thing.

Hope this helps.

So that will work for dumping and reviewing clips. Is it enough to run something like OnLocation too? And how long of a cable can I run between the cam and the laptop?
