Hardware for Export to Tape

Looks like I'll be pulling the trigger soon on an HVX (finally), a couple of 4gig P2s, Barry's recommended Sony laptop, DVRack, and AspectHD. Everything's great for aquisition and editing (with PPRO2).

I suddenly realize that I'm thinking in DV and HDV terms and that I'll have no way of getting things back out to analog tape (BetaSP) . I am looking for the best solution to downsample 720 or 1080 timeline to component SD. (actually, my DV/HDV method was a bit whack with firewire to DV deck, DV deck s-video to Beta SP...I'm really needing a way to use component).

After some research, I felt BlackMagic Design's Decklink and Multibridge products looked like the deal. BUT, buried in the fine print, I see that their products only do downsampling on OSX. Actually, the $2500 Multibridge will do it on XP, but for obvious reasons I'd rather go with the $1500 Multibridge or less than $1000 decklink. I do like the future-proof Idea of the multibridge where some day I can plug in a flashy new HD deck, however before I drop the cash I want to see if anyone here has alternate ideas on hardware.

I know the down sampling can be done in PPRO but I was never really happy with the results from doing it in software. I'm thinking hardware would be a better, not to mention faster method. Am I just plain wrong in thinking this?

Can someone point me to any other hardware that can do the job?

Thanks!

P.S. Barry - I see you're in NC now...welcome to North Kakalakee...where did you end up?

Actually, I don't know if you can do this with Aspect HD and PPro 2, but in FCP, you can export your timeline back to the camera- I've got two 16gb cards, which equals approx 17 min of 1080 footage- After that, you can use the camera component out to output to a Beta SP deck. Not the best solution in therms of overal quality, I know, but certainly the most cost effective. If your project is over 17 min in 1080i, however, than consider this process not viable.

EDIT- The camera can do the downsampling.
