Hardcases For DIY custom foam equipment cases

Hey guys, so I want to have some hard cases for my equipment and I'd like to find CHEAP and large hard cases that I can fill with custom cut foam. But I can't actually find many cheap hard cases. Gun cases are just as expensive etc. What's the best kind of box to use/where do I gert it? I was thinking of using saxophone cases because they are cheap on ebay but they are made out of wood lined with stuff and Idk if that is good enough. it's more about organization for me than protection however. I hate throwing everything into a soft bag where it gets jumbled together. ideas?

Also if you know a good foam source or link, post that here too! Thanks!

Check also for pelicases with blown pressure valves, etc. Unless the thing is cracked, a few scuff marks isn't going to affect the integrity of the case.

get some big tool boxes, they're made of hard plastic and seem to be pretty cheap in general.

What sizes are you talking about? Harbor Freight sells several cases that may be appropriate for equipment of various sizes. I just bought an oversize hard plastic "beer cooler" that looks like it will fit one of my cameras. And I have used old luggage from the charity shop (Goodwill, Salvation Army, et.al.) I rather like using unlikely, plain looking cases that don't scream "I'M EXPENSIVE, STEAL ME!"

You can buy used Anvil, Calzone and many others very very cheap if you keep your eye open. Craiglsit's music section is a great place to look.

It is amazing how much these cases sell for new and how little they are worth used.

I just ordered some foam from here:

I ordered some closed cell and soft foam. It should be here anyday. I'll let you know how it is.
I did get it. As advertised. Good foam. Doesn't feel cheap (atleast not any cheaper than the precut Pelcian foam). They have pick and pluck as well even though I didn't order it, if its anything like what I received you'll be happy because you saved some serious $$$$$$.
