hard to get steady handheld with DVX?

Re: hard to get steady handheld with DVX?

But If more then 20 persons are interested I think I could make a limited edition for an ultra low price :)

yeah that premiere plugin called steadymove from 2D3 saved me a few times but I definetely noticed the resolution loss. I think they have a pro version and I was wondering if anyone has tried it to see how much better it is.

Re: hard to get steady handheld with DVX?

All software stabilizers work by essencially matting off all around the edges, then adjusting by moving a "crop" around the frames to remove the shake. As the resulting frame size is somewhat smaller (depending on how bad the shake), the software then resizes the clp back to the original dimensions. Without resizing, the fixed clip wouldn't match the rest of the clips.

A loss of resolution is unavoidable.

my recommendation for steady handheld -- use the eye cup for the right eye, open LCD and watch it with your left eye. stereo ;)

it is very important to make the camera move one piece with the upper half of your body. it will make footage look like 35mm handheld, rather than handycam handheld, which we try to avoid. eye cup can also be sticked to your forehead, as it has this vacuum like behavior.. i do it very often. and whatever you do, don't hold the camera away from your body as if it's floating in the air!!! footage will look bad and your back will not tolerate this kind of operating too!

i got the DVrigPro, and although it makes handheld very easy, i sometimes rather NOT using it, if i think that i miss the advantage of using a small camera, which allows me to be very flexible in changing camera positions and angels.

another thing - walking backwards yield better results than walking forwards with the camera handheld!
wear air cushioned training shoes!

I use the dvrig pro also and your shots will be much more stable than handheld after some practice but while it may limit extreme movements as mentioned by shai it does allow moderate flexibility.
