hard drives won't mount when camera is plugged in

I have two g-drive external drives daisy chained together with firewire 800 and plugged into my imac 24"

So its firewire from computer, to drive 1 to drive 2 and then the last open input i have my dvx100b plugged into.

The hard drives work great, i highly recommend the g-drive. My issue is that when i have the camera plugged into the hard drive, i flip them on, they power up just like usual but they will not mount. I unplug the camera with the drives still daisy chained together and they mount perfect, work fine, no problem.
I've had minor issues in the past where i'd have the camera plugged in and all of a sudden the drives would unmount once i turned on the camera. it has worked after a restart but now it just won't work.

I know everyone is using HD now but unfortunately i am not a rich man so i'm still shooting in dv. Does anyone have any recommendations as to how i can solve this? time is of the essence as I have logged about 75min of footage that i need to import and have edited in the next couple weeks. Should I get a firewire hub? i tried researching them but only found a couple and they didn't seem too reliable based on user comments.

Please help if you can, it will be greatly appreciated

If what you need is to capture, try just one drive, daisy chain the camera through that. I have a DV deck through a LaCie 8TB RAID on an iMac 27" and it works, but some other combos I tried (multiple drives, e.g.) did not.
