Any One Have Any Insight On This Or Do You Jan?
Jan May Have To Be Hush Hush If It Isnt Public Knowledge So I Understand
Just Dont Want To Go All Out For 2 P2 When Something May Be In Feb Or Nab In April.

they already have a hard drive solution, well a hard drive offload solution.

http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webap...94262&modelNo=AJ-PCS060G&surfModel=AJ-PCS060G

that dumps cards onto a firewire device.

if you are talking about a firestore type of device.. im not sure, but i wouldn't hold my breath. They have been working with firestore for some time now for the HVX solution, and dont think they desire stepping away from them to develop their own device.

Firestore has announced the forthcoming FS-100, a 100-gb hard disk recorder for the HVX, which will record 100 minutes of HD footage (or 200 minutes of SD, or 400 minutes of DV). They estimate a shipping date of 3/2006 and a price tag of somewhere under $2,000.

Seems like we could hack the AJ-PCS060G and slap a 100 or 120 gb drive in it. Guessing that they are using a Hitachi 7200rpm 60gb, the Hitachi 100gb 7200rpm could drop right in. And if they had any special software loaded on the disk, norton ghost would solve that.

yeah. its probally easy to do.. i dont know how comfortable i am messing with it though.. as that drive is partitioned into specific sizes for the cards.

Does that mean the store is useless for cards above 8GB?

Seems to me that the firestore at under $2000 for 100GB of storage is way over price.
How can they charge so much, when an Archos 100GB media player only costs a few hundred? Profiteering?

Yep its pretty expensive in comparison to other 2.5" HDD storage devices - but then what other devices can capture through firewire, DV, SD, HD video signals on the fly? The Archos is just that - a media player with a CF slot... There are a multitude of variants of that formula floating around as the demand is high - forcing each company to offer them at lower and lower prices...

Well its "somewhere" under $2000 - no actual price released as yet. I don't see it as profiteering - but market demand... The DV firestore is somewhat more affordable - however the market is a lot larger, and the portable media player market is exponentially larger than the HD firewire capture market... It's all in supply and demand...

Cheers, Nathan.

and remember.. your only other option is paying $2000 for 8gb... so you want 100gb or 8gb for that price?

Hey, whats up with the capitalization of the first letter in every word of every sentence?

Makes it difficult to read and looks like hell.

As for the capture solution, I am hoping that Serious Magic folks come up with a product offering similar to DV Rack but that address the HVX's capabilities.

Gotta' couple questions:

1) SeriousMagic.com has their DVrack which is supposed to work with HD. We will see if they have a codec available for the HVX, but assuming they do, would any of you recommend shooting with that product, straight to hard drive -- as their site advertises? Or am I misunderstanding what their claim is? I would've thought that the typical hard drive would be too slow to save the HD footage. Especially 1080. What do ya think?

2) I want to edit with FINAL CUT PRO, but the SERIOUS MAGIC products only work with a PC... which would mean that I'd have to work with a laptop, save to PC's hard drive and then use the footage with the MAC, to edit. First of all, I'm not a PC guy... so, any advice on what kind of pain this would be? Or would it be relatively easy to accomplish.

3) While I'm at it, any thought's on Serious Magic's chroma key-like software? Or would you recommend Magic Bullet, instead???

Thanks much!

- Brad

DVrack may produce the codec if enough of us whine about it.. it was a while before they had HDV rolling, so maybe next NAB if we are really really lucky.

It stores to drive, just like DV. HD footage from the HVX is 100Mbs, well within the firewire limitations, and limitation of normal hardrives, both laptop and desktop.

If your thinking about using a pc just for one solution, that is recording HVX content to disk, it might be better for you to buy a Firestore HD instead.. about the same price. You dont get all the great extras DVrack offers, but it avoids you learning how to us a PC, and then learning how to network that PC to your Mac.

Serious Magic's Ultra Keyer is one of the best i have used, period. And easiest.
