Hard Drive Failure - Replacement options for a hobbyist?

Greetings All. I recently had a 500gig Western Digital hard drive fail on me. It was only about 3-4 years old. I lost about 200gigs of footage and renders. Not too terrible, I have all the master tapes, but not fun either.

Anyone have a good option for a hobbyist? I'd like to have something with raid reliability, possibly access for two computers, and at least 500gigs in size. Budget in the 500USD price range. I'm leaning toward a NAS but I don't know how well network storage works with Avid. I work mostly with HVD nowadays, sometimes with DV mixed in.

Any links or advice is appreciated in advance. Happy editing!

I'd probably build an external eSATA-II RAID10. You'll need to couple it with an appropriate PCI card.
