Here's a video that I shot and edited over 3 days very very recently. It was pretty quick, so no CC and the editing still needs to be tightened up, but here it is anyway! Please critique away, but keep in mind it's really informal....please right click and save as too...

March in Oregon

i hate to say this but i wanted to see some crash shots mixed in. only thing better than seeing someone kicking ass is someone eating SHlT.

nice video either way though. held my attention.

nice goin Pat - looks good...that 2nd jump at the Gorge looked pretty big...get any side shots of it??

Hey, thanks for the words everyone. I like seeing crashes too, but unfortunately I didn't get any on tape those two days....weird I know. On those last shots of those big jumps at the gorge we really didn't film them for very long as we had to leave pretty quick, so no side shots of the second gap. We're probably going to go back and film them in the near future though. As for the stabilizing shots, I was using a technique I call ghetto camming, where you just close your tripod all the way up and extend the pedestal column a bit and have the cam mounted on the head, and you just hold it by the pedestal column and run your ass off/hope for the best....Thanks again guys!

nice... who made your beats?
i dont know what he used, but it just sounds to me to be a sony acid mix, or some loop base. am i right?

ghetto cam....ill have to remember that. you have some great shots in there. good work.
creative editing too...i get tired of seeing guys on bikes but you've made it interesting with your longer clips and editing. just a personal preference, but i like sports shots that are a little more drawn out mixed with short clips (i.e. an unbroken clip of several jumps in sequcence, followed by a clip of a tire out of focus), and i think you have a good mix. nice use of frame speed too.

are you on a modem? id love to see this in a higher-format. i bet it looks great.

Right on Pat!!! That is very cool...we've been using ghetto cam for a ski flick I've been helping with...actually works pretty damn good!

I never would have thought of that "ghetto cam". Great idea, and it produced some great shots! Loved the editing too, really held my attention.

Thanks guys. Yeah, ghetto camming works really well once you get the hang of it, holding the cam and tripod out with your arm can get pretty tiring though, since instead of a steadicam arm, you're basically substituting your own arm....Also, I had my .5x red eye and OIS on with those ghetto camming shots, so that helps to smooth out alot of stuff too. Thanks again!

If you are doing a lot of pans and movements with the camera then the OIS can actually start working against you. It's best for hand held shots that you attempt to keep steady. But when you are doing a lot of movement then the OIS keeps trying to catch up and you can get subtle jumps.

Try an experiment with that same movement shot but done with and without the OIS turned on. Then import and look closely at the footage.

Good idea, I'll deffinetly try that, because I deffinetly notice alot of jumpy motion on the pans. Thanks!

All of the work you post is such great stuff, you really have editing your footage to the music down. By the way, is this song done by Mr. Dibbs? I think I vaguely remember it from Photosynthesis, an old Alien Workshop video (skateboarding) and he did like all of the music in it. Anyways, great job!

Thanks alot for the good words. Yeah, that's a Mr. Dibbs track that I had kicking around on my computer, seemed to work well. Hopefully I can get out and shoot more now that I wont be working saturdays and sundays.
