Ok, I admit I had no idea today was International Friendship Day.

I think it's about friendships in general and is supposed to be an international holiday... according to wiki, it sounds like we made it up so others will love US...

International Friendship Day is celebrated annually, on the first Sunday of August, in several countries. It was initially declared a holiday in honor of friends in the United States by the U.S. Congress in 1935.

Which answers my question of whether it was created to celebrate friends in general or international friends. It looks like the former, which means I can (unfortunately ) wish UGA a happy friends day.
