Happy Death Day

I wasn't expecting much from a college girls slasher movie, but this one was charming. A Groundhog Day themed slasher, but I am just full of admiration for the main actress Jessica Rothe, who was in practically every scene - she really carried the movie. The reveal was a bit silly, and of course there are some implausibilities, but it was a well constructed film, and it held my attention. Direction was competent, nothing to write home about, but mostly - wow, Jessica Rothe.

I went in with very low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. A fun film for a rainy afternoon (right now in LA!). Anyone else here seen it?

Damn, I meant to see it in the theatre but didn't get there in time. Jess is indeed great. She was one of the co-stars of a show I worked on ("Mary + Jane") and we have remained pals. She's really going places. Here we are being goofballs with the other very talented co-star Scout Durwood, on our last day on set.

Jess was incidentally also in LaLa Land, playing one of Emma Stone's roommates. Watch for her in the upcoming remake of "Valley Girl".

Yeah, I think she has a great career ahead of her, if only holywood pays attention, because she's got loads of talent. Good to hear she's a nice person too, you're a lucky guy Charles :)
