F55: Hansaton Café Commercial

Very nice stefan, was this shot in slog2 or other cine gamma?

Also I have a question about the lighting, is the large white square in the background the reflection of the key being used on the talent or was it actually in the background? If it was the key how is it we do not see any camera in this reflection? I am curious about this setup.

Cheers,
Im pretty sure thats the BG. You dont see the reflections of any of the people on the BG.

Yes it could be large fake window pane, as there really are no reflections in it at all. I find it a bit distracting, but it fits the overall high-key look to this shoot. Very bright and crisp.

Hi all,

thanx for the feedback ;-)

The White in the background you see is white cloth covering an Opening towards a backyard/Street.
we didn't want to see the street outside and keep the general light/white ambience.
having said that the room/cafe was very dark in reality without lights....

Between the Glass Front and this opening is about 3m space - not in direct light (The whole shot is facing north) and pretty dark.
a 4k Arri lit up the entire space there bounced from a silver reflector.

on the right side there were windows to a next hall (you can see one of them in the CU of the woman) where a 1.6k made the right edge to the
main character's face from the outside bounced from a Zebra "California Sunbounce"

his back left side was lit from the back fairly high with a 4k on the floor reflected by a Zebra "California Sunbounce"

from the left front there was an 1.6k octobox with grid high enough not to be reflected (room height was about 4m)

front right was with small reflectors and mirrors reflecting the backlight coming from the left...

all in all it was quite on the limit, for we had to bring up the faces quite a bit in post as i didn't want the White Opening Cloth to clip... ;-)

cheers

Thanks Stefan for so much detail behind the scenes. As always, I think lighting is more important than the camera so I am continually fascinated by various lighting setups so I can get more out of my F55, and other cameras that I might shoot with.
