Handling LOUD audio

I 've posted this in the audio threads as well. ANY help would be appreciated.

Ive searched this site using "Loud Audio" "Handling Loud audio", "Event Audio", "DJ Music" etc.

I 've got a couple of weddings coming up that I have to use the DVX for. I use a Sony 500 for this kind of stuff but its in the shop...

I spoke to Jan at Panasonic at the IFP conf in NYC yesterday...She said the on camera mic would not hadle it and my Sennheiser 66 was too sensitive as well... She saud I need to get a mic that matches my cam. Now i have used the DVX and the Sennheiser for corporate stuff and for shooting my feature but not for events

So any recommendations and workflows to:
1. get a mic that with an out put that matches the dvx
and
2. how best to use the Audio limiter in the camera to keep levels from peaking during recording.

The Sony 500 has a default limiter that I am used to..just flick the switch and the audio never gets too hot.

Again this is for lound DJs and bands in closed quarters of weddings and such (got to pay the bills)

Any thoughts on handling Reallllly Loud audio would be a help.

Thanks for any help you can give me

buy a hi-end tape recorder from a pawn shop and run a line out of the board... then dub to mini DV... you won't have to worry about audio

Hmmm... this should not be a problem. Unless you're really close-micing the speakers... close enough that it would damage your hearing to stand that close - there shouldn't be a problem unless you set the levels too high on the camera.

Use the MIC INPUT SENSITIVITY option of the DVX appropriately (sorta like a 10db pad), and don't put the mic anywhere where the SPL would kill the wedding guests. Any level that would not cause everyone to flee the wedding should be recordable without the problems you fear.
