I've been hired to DP a short film which will be shown in festivals on-screen. I have been using the dvx for years and this will be my first experience with HD (and the hpx-170). The production will be paying me a sufficient fee and rental allowing me to buy myself an HPX and a 35mm adapter. I have searched to try and find comparisons of the 35 adapters on the HX and can't seem to find any. My ultimate concern is image quality, the less glass in front of the glass, the better.
What is the best adapter to use with the hpx? I don't mind spending more money if it will be a noticeable difference in quality and ease of use, I would love to get the cine-tube, but that is way too much, I would say under $5k is where I need to be. Any thoughts on this? Also, we don't need the flip function as this camera can do it for you, right? Is the Letus ultimate the best in this class? Have you used it?
Also, the director wants the entire piece to be "handheld" and as a tripod/crane/dolly kind of guy, I don't have a lot of experience, once I have the adapter and 35mm lens on, what would be the most affordable way to get that handheld feeling? Would it be a simple shoulder mount or a cheap mono steady-cam type thing? Thanks, everyone.
