The Random Brainstorm Footage (thinking about a fourth draft of the script, just walked outside with the iPhone and shot nothing important or interesting while coming up with ideas. It's an exercise I use for myself) -- http://www.vimeo.com/5368276

I still have the MKii, mostly because I'm trying to find something I like about it other than the image. AKA trying to make it work for me so that I can justify keeping it in the arsenal.

Finally broke down and ceded to the obvious: I need weight. So...

* Zacuto Lunchbox - http://store.zacuto.com/lunchbox.html
* Zacuto Zgrips v3 (So bad ass) - http://store.zacuto.com/Zgrips-V3.html
* Redrock Shoulder Mount Bracket - http://www.redrockmicro.com/microShoulderMount/index.html (Second Photo, just that piece nothing else)
* Redrock Handles - http://www.redrockmicro.com/microShoulderMount/index.html (fourth photo, just two of those handles)

15mm Iris Rods @ 15" or So equals this ugly 13-14lb contraption:

Sorry to any Redrock or Zacuto purists about the Frankenstein job. Neither had everything I wanted but together they made a great team. The thing to note here is that it can (and was) used as a shoulder mount AND as a cradle. The idea being that the most of the weight was on my shoulder so it felt great, and when it was just in my hands I could hold the Redrock grips like gun handles, put the weight on my forearm and dissipate the little shakes of my wrists. I prefer cradling because I'm tall, so this suits my shooting style perfectly. It's actually pretty fun minus not having a way to really see the monitor.

There's nothing too interesting here, again just put it together and went to see what I could do. There's only one area where the 28-70 was used and it's the wide shot of the motorcycle. The rest is 180mm or 135mm.

Next time there'll be something actually worth watching. Just wanted to post up a minor personal breakthrough with VDSLR's for myself that I could have solved forever ago.

flipflopper!

If you want some more weight put an external LCD on there.....or fill your rods with sand

LoL. Sorry man, nobody else will be able to compete with you in the Flip-Flopping area, Squig. That's a miserable place you won't have any company.

Nah, in all seriousness an LCD won't do the trick. If you're going strictly handheld (stabilizers, pods, etc aren't considered this. Shoulder Mounted is) then the LCD is just adding more weight to your wrists.

Gotta get the weight to the forearms or biceps.

By the way, don't you have a steady majigger? I'm interested in knowing if you can successfully fly anything beyond a 50mm and pull focus on it as well. If ya has some footage please show me so I can figure this out.

I haven't tried beyond 50mm yet but I just got my russian 85 and 135 so I'll shoot something in the next couple of days. I'm interested in knowing too, if your rig works better I'll be getting one too. I just bought a 180 ai-s ED but it's coming from the US so probably won't get it for a week or so.

It's definitely not all that easy. The drawback to this horrible mish-mosh is that it's pretty friggin' obvious. Takes the discrete right off the page. I know a lot of people say just shoulder mount it but I can't find any good examples of shoulder mounted or handheld material, hell even stabilized material, that exceeds the 50mm Marker. I'm sure there's some out there and mines still falls a bit short.

Gotta practice some more.

Definitely post up some footages as soon as you can with the stabilizer. It's not just for the MKii but VDSLRs in general. They all suffer from the very same problem: confined to sticks, IS lenses, larger stabilizer rigs and wide lenses.

I remember Mattias had some really good Hague footage, I just couldn't figure out how on earth he did it. Or maybe I shouldn't have been trying it at 85mm+ LoL.

yeah it's obvious but you have the GH1 for those occasions when you need stealth.

have you seen this- http://www.camotionllc.com/blackbird-a-78.html

the hague and merlin gimbals take a lot of practice.....I'm not even close to nailing the steadytracker

what kinda field monitor are you using? I'm doing my head in trying to decide on one.
