Hand Held rig

Hey has anyone built there own DIY held held rig. I was looking to buy the redrock shoulder support but after looking at it figured i could save some cash and make my own. It seems pretty simple the only part i'm a little lost of how to is the plate where i would mount the camera to. Anybody out there have any suggestions for this. Thanks for your help
