I've been waiting for about 2 weeks to post this thread. I didn't want to jump the gun too much, so I waited til the frist of the month. I'm super excited, I got out all the old stuff last week, and went out and got some new stuff today, I'll be mapping out the yard haunt this weekend and probably do a trial run next weekend. HALLOWEEN! ;D

Re: Halloween is coming!

TC, I'm coming to your house! I've always wanted to have a crazy holloween setup, I've just never had the family or roommates that were receptive to the idea.

Re: Halloween is coming!

hALLOWEEN is such a great time of year (October, Oktober Fest, Fall,). I love all of the horror films they show on tv!

Re: Halloween is coming!

Hey TC how about posting your yard scare plan? I love doing stuff like that!

Re: Halloween is coming!

Yea! Anyone got any ideas? I'm MORE than happy to throw mine out there. We did some painting and some fabricating for this cool cauldron idea I've got this morning. Today I'll be running around to the shops getting some more stuff (I get a discount at a few of them because I buy so damn much.) I'll post some pics later tonight.

Re: Halloween is coming!

Okay, so here's a quick walk through of the house and some ideas I've got.

We're gonna have a halloween party on saturday night (the 30th) and then spend all day on the 31st moving the decorations out front for the kids.

Here's the front of the house.

Off to the right you can see the gate where the enterance to the backyard is.

Here's a close up of the gate.

This will be lit with red lights and a sign will be on the ate that says "Abandon all hope ye who enters here" (gotta have the inferno reference)

This is the side yard on the way to the backyard.

I'm using an SV photoflood with a red gel to make everything red, there will also be a cool lightning machine that i'm rigging up that will have thunder and lightning sounds coming out of a cd player and 2 500w work lights flash with the lightning. When it flashes against the white wall of the house it's gonna be super bright and disorienting. Also, from that tree there will be tons of spider webbing all over the place.

This is when you make that turn into the backyard.

The trampolene will be put away, we decided that drunk people in costumes jumping on the trampolene is a bad idea.

Here's the rest of the backyard.

I'll probably put a scene or something in the middle of everything, but I haven't decided what yet.

Here's where the graveyard will be.
http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/ftdfilms/detail?.dir=2b87&.dnm=e287.jpg
As you can see I already put up the creepy little fence, there will probably be 6 tombstones, one with a zombie hand coming out of course. And there will be eerie little lights highlighting the tombs. We'll also have little lanterns hanging from the tree branches, I'll put a cd player with a spooky sounds cd back there as well.

Here's a close up of the patio area.

This is where the "Lost Souls Tavern" will be, complete with a variety of liquers, probably a keg, and my halloween favorite, green and orange jell-o shots.

Here's the back area of the patio.

I haven't quite decided what will be back here yet. On the right side you can see the hot tub that will be renamed as the Haunt Tub.

This is my favorite new addition to this year.

He is going to be a preacher, and I'm currently getting a spooky bride and groom together.

Here's the cauldron thing I was talking about.

You set a fog machine to shoot the fog into the tube and goes into the cauldron. Drill some holes in the cauldron so the fog can get through, than fill it with ice (dry ice works better) which will cool the fog down so it doesn't rise and it sits low on the ground after spill over the edges of the cauldron. Looks very cool, especially if you've got a few fog machines, and you use similar techniques, there can be a cool blanket of fog on the ground the whole night.

Here's most of the haul this year.

It doesn't look like much, but most of it needs to be assembled.

I figured since I was taking pictures I'd take one of my "office"

And here's my sexy beast (plus some audio equiptment I was playing with (this one is actually a few weeks old))

Projects for next week: Among other things, I'm trying to figure out a way to have ghosts flying around the yard about 15ft in the air all night long. I'm thinking a motorized gear system, or something of that nature.

Man, that was a long post.

Re: Halloween is coming!

Sweet a fellow crazy Halloween fan!!! That sounds like a start TC...keeep goooing... :o

Our house is normally all decked out, but this year we've moved so I think we should step it up a notch...or three! for the new neighbors...mwahahaha...

When you said motorized ghosts, I thought of a center point, with a motorized fan attached, the fan could act like a propeller...just a thought...

We should all post pics!

(I just remember that last year we almost killed a kid...we made a life size coffin, and had him dress up like a dead body, blood, and gore, and torn cloth...he was happy until he realized a fake coffin and a real coffin look like the same thing from the inside...He jumped out a couple times...then called it quits...heh)

Re: Halloween is coming!

Here's something I've been having trouble with: Getting blacklights bright enough. I hardly ever seem to the the glowing on white effect that I'm going for.

Re: Halloween is coming!

Here's another idea...you know those glowsticks? If you cut one open after you ignite it, you can pour the glowing liquid into any container you want. Test tubes, beakers...it looks really cool in clear plastic tubes going in and out of a brain-shaped jelly mold.

Be careful though, as I'm sure it's highly toxic....it might be phosphorus based too, which would severely irritate skin on contact.

Re: Halloween is coming!

20Ks definitely would give some back-light...or rather, appear as though whoever is seeing them is ALREADY DEAD and "seeing the light" :P

A somewhat convoluted suggestion - and is probably more work than it's worth, but for the ghosts, maybe get a video projector, and do a quickie little video with white ghosts on a black backdrop, moving around and such...then project it onto a wall somehow, or into smoke??

I dunno how that would turn out (and it's probably more trouble than it's worth) but it MAY look really cool!

Re: Halloween is coming!

That glowstick idea was used to create the glowing goo in Blade Runner... if it's non-toxic, it's non-toxic... simple as that... i wouldn't worry too much about it. Just don't let anyone drink it...

Re: Halloween is coming!

Not to assume anything....

Would they really be that harmful considering they give them to children at the holiday? Maybe, maybe not.

http://chemistry.about.com/library/weekly/aa040902a.htm

The last line reads:

Lightsticks are a lot of fun to play with, but the chemicals used in them are not readily available to the average person and may pose health risks outside of their tubes.

So our children are playing with HAZMAT?

Re: Halloween is coming!

We were doing a spoof on reanimator and did the glow stick thing and put the huice in a syringe, just FYI, it doesn't come off clothes.

Read the sentence right after the one that John pointed out.

"However, they are easy to locate in a variety of colors via the Internet!"

So they may be hazardous, but you can get them in lots of cool colors!

Re: Halloween is coming!

I think I'm gonna setup the video camera on my porch and me and my friends are gonna scare the kids when they come to my house, but I'm not sure how I should do it yet. Maybe if I'm lucky, I can get Michael Jackson to help me out.

Re: Halloween is coming!

Halloween is the best time of year. Hundreds of ghouls and ghosts and goblins. Jack-o-lanterns and interesting parties.

Re: Halloween is coming!

.. it'll be time for the now annual riot downtown :-/
what can i say.. you get 50,000 -70,000 people together in holloween gear, add live music, alcohol, and a hefty helping of college and underage idiots ..and there ya go.

..and no, im not taking my DVX anywhere near it.
it used to be fun, but now its just out of control. i think we might just stay home, and have a little party for our freinds and all the kids or something this year.
