Halloween Greeting Card from New Orleans

Ok so Hudson threw the invite down for anyone to make a short Halloween film, just for fun, using family or whatever, no big production. They were supposed to go up at midnight on Halloween – but did anybody do one? I’d like to see them if so…

At anyrate – here’s my late entry. This was shot in about two hours and edited in about three – just a goof. But hopefully weird enough to watch, though I’m still not satisfied with the compression. This is straight outta the DVX with no CC, BTW.

I said I’d post some footage when I got back to New Orleans so killing a couple of birds with one stone here...

Consider it a slightly belated Halloween Greeting Card from the Big Easy.
Thanks all, and enjoy…

that was really cool man, thanks for sharing! i wouldnt mind seeing more actually, like how does everything look in the daylight? its interesting to see the life coming back to N.O. and its always great to see hot nurse. dead cop, wow!

So cool! Wish I had been there last night... looked more happening than Dallas.

What was up with the "cop inside" thing?

Oh yes, limehouse, Halloween is second only to Mardi Gras in NOLA.

Coffee and Lyons-Den, apt. fine except for fridge which like the "dead" ones you saw we will be chucking -- it grew and hatched maggots, their eggs are all over it, we closed it before we finished opening it due to the smell. It will be ducktaped closed and set out on the curb.

The French Quarter looks mostly normal. But when you venture out of that area that's where it looks like Baghdad or something.

The gift of having a great imagination kinda backfires when you're eating your lunch and read something like this. he he thanks for that jdanstan :undecided

My cousin lives in Mandeville. I for one am in Lafayette.

Glad you're good.

Oh that crazy New Orleans.

Cool

Another DVXuser in the immediate area.

As far as I know I've been the only one although I know of two pros here that use DVXes all the time
1) I was in a Cox cable commercial that was shot on DVX
2) I used to write for an educational software company and the guy there quit using the company's XL2 and brought in his own DVX which he uses exclusively there since it's "so much better for green screen work".

Guy#1 I don't really know but I've been meaning to email guy#2 and ask why the hell he's not a member.

EDIT: -- oh wait -- Lafayette is like 3 hours away right? That's still closer than anyone else on here I know of.

Very entertaining... I always enjoy freak shows. That guy with the homemade multicolored costume was too much.

The dog and cat are great. The music made me chuckle.

I haven't been to "The Big Easy" in about 3 years.

Thanks for posting.

If I had time I was going to sub title -- but the girl who walks up and starts hitting on that guy as I walk away points at his stuffed breasts and exlcaims "titties"! with a sort of drunken child like glee, lol.

Welcome Back! I just got back myself. I didn't get out their this Halloween but Frenchmen St. is always Fun Fun.

that was cool you ran into Becky Allen.

Yeah I was going to do that but ran out of time as supposedly this was deadline thing that a bunch of us were going to do...

Cool another New Orleanian

Got any clips I/we can see?

You can see my work (for real) in the Fall Fest link below...

AWESOME! I LOVED YOUR SHORT. It was my favorite one, I gave it a 9 .

I shot some footage with my DVC80 (like DVX just without 24p) of my neighborhood in Old Gretna. Shot it when they first let people in Jeff. parish months back. I want to post some footage but my Mac is all in pieces right now.

hey man if you are on a Mac and have DVC80 footage you gotta check out G Film effects by Graeme Nattress (if your not using it already), I use it exclusively as opposed to MB -- but it does 24p on a 29.97 timeline very comparibly to the DVX (not24pa but 24p) and you'll have that mojo panasonic gamma curve with your DVC80 + DVX motion in post! His pluggings are only $100 too.

He's a member of the forum also.

really... your footage looked great , I heard some good things about the G film filters but never really tried them. 100 bucks sounds like a good deal.

One thing -- not familiar with the frame rates on that cam -- did you shoot 60i or 30p or what? G Film 24p works converting from 60i because it uses the interlaced fields to work its magic. I think if you shot 30p then it can't do that, but 30p looks pretty filmic anyway. If you did shoot 30p you can get G Film Conversion I think and its about the same price but it ony converts frame rate, no gamma, or filters or anything.

EDIT: Also on the DVX Zombie Fest DVD (which should be released anytime now) in addition to an 8 minute "making of" I have a CC correction comparsion so you can see the raw footage on half the frame with the CC on the other.

I'm pretty sure it just shoots 60i, I wanted the DVX but got a really great deal on my DVC. Haven't really tried for the film look, Most of the work I do is with BetaSP cameras.

<----------- ME Shooting an arena football game.

Then your all set, it'll take that 60i, deinterlace it with minimal degredation, and play it as 24p with telecine on a 29.97 timeline.

If the DVX is way out of peoples range -- the above combo with a DVC80 is as close as you can get - kow that wasn't your situation, but its an easy upgrade for you and I bet you could pass it off as DVX footage pretty easily. Only thing you can't do is true 24pa for a 24pDVD, and you have less in camera gamma options.
