GH2 half shutter press while shooting video stops camera, does not re-focus

Can someone help me with this.
I have read that it is possible to refocus while shooting video by pressing the shutter button halfway down.
I have read a lot of posts on this and have tried many combinations, but what seems to happen for me is that the camera
just stops shooting video whenever I try to re-focus by pressing the shutter button very lightly half way down.

What am I doing wrong?

I have continuous focus turned off in the menu.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Forgot to mention I am using the Panasonic 14mm and the 20mm prime lenses as well as the 14 -40mm kit lens

It's stopping because the shutter button acts as the start/stop movie button in Creative Motion Picture Mode. For focus, I primarily use manual focus/the lens ring.

If for AF, I set it to AFS (and sub-settings 1-area, 23-area-focusing or Face Detection depending on situation) while pressing the touch screen onto the subject I want in focus.

Continuous AF when enabled will eventually lock onto the subject without touching, but touching the subject onscreen makes it happen sooner. If you don't want it to focus hunt, don't enable continous AF and you can still use the touchscreen. But it's best to use manual focus when you can.

half shutter works for me. do you have it enabled in the menu? and to rule out the obvious, your pressing the main shutter button and not the small red button right.

On page 3 of the Custom menu, there's a function called "Half Press Release". Make sure this is turned OFF.

on p. 105 of the pdf manual/Creative Motion Picture Mode:
You can also start/stop motion picture recording by pressing the shutter button.
Isn't this why the recording is stopping on him?

Is it that if you do the halfway shutter to focus but go too far, it will stop the video?
I only focus as described in my earlier post.

"Half Press Release" switched ON disables the half-press auto-focus function and simply turns recording on and off by half-pressing. It makes the shutter button way more sensitive because all you have to do is half-press and you're either recording or you're not.

MR Fanny, yes I am using the shutter button, not the dedicated red record button.
dvbrother I have tried turning off half press release, but it has made no difference. A half shutter press does not evoke focusing.
GHKAM - I have been using your technique but it is a little cumbersome and it's often difficult to keep the camera steady when pressing the screen.
The half shutter press for focus would be a better alternative as this seems to jolt the camera less than pressing the screen.
Thank you to all who have responded.

Hmmm ... It certainly SHOULD work the way you want it to. It does for me, with those exact same lenses. Strange.

You don't have Manual Focus turned on do you? For the type of autofocus you want, you want AFS engaged on the top left dial.

If you want a half press to invoke focus, you must set Custom Menu Setting [Shutter AF] to ON. Manual page 53.

Good luck.

Finally figured it out. I think. Seems to be working based on the settings provided. Thanks to all for responding. Very much appreciated
