Hey guys! This was an audition tape for a Salon i did in my area. I just uploaded the opening part of the vid to save time on DL. Sorry for the frame size, its a bit small. Hopefully i will get my own website going some time soon.

My name is Rhydon Rayment, just turned 18, and fell in-love with the DVX about 2 years ago. All was shot with the origonal DVX, 12 hour shoot, and 2 day edit, back in June 04. Hope you like!

Take care-

Re: hair salon audition tape

Awesome job! Looks great. Was this an audtion for employment or...........? (I'm confused on what you were auditioning for :P )

Nice cut. Nice score. Well done!

Dope steez man. Well edited. I really like that shot of dianne when her name comes up.

Re: hair salon audition tape

Hey, thanks John! It was an audition tape for the salon to get into a competition to cut hair. Up here in Canada they held something called 'HairWarz'. It was a TV reality show on different salon's from all over Canada competing to cut hair (on a set in TO). But for your Salon to get on, you had to send in an audition tape just to show who you were, and you could actually cut hair ;). This was my first contract client, i dont belong to the salon at all, just knew a guy who worked there and he saw some of my earlier work.

Re: hair salon audition tape

woah, I really like it! The editing kept me intrested. Dude, they should cut my hair.  ;D

Re: hair salon audition tape

That looked great! Very pro. Did the salon get in the competition? I'm curious because I alway imagined those competitions want the audition tape to look amateur. No basis for this, just a guess. Does anyone know if reality show producers are partial to a plain jane audition tape or a flashy one?

Anyways, excellent job on the tape Rhydon.

Re: hair salon audition tape

Hey guys, thanks. im surprised at the overall positive attitude towards the vid! But, yes they did get into the competition; the tape got them into the final round (which was the actual show). Unfortunately they lost the first round of the show.....From what i herd, the competitors were salon's from Quebec, Montréal and BC. But at least I got them thru it, and on to TV, they were please the most with that.

Also, ExFilms, you are correct, the audition tape was just supposed to be a short video (preferably home video) on the contestants running thru the basic processes (cut, color, makeup). Basically an entire makeover. I wanted to give the film a different 'look' compared to other hair cutting videos, i guess you could say it ended up being CSI meets Fashion TV. The video was 8 mins in length. I wish I coulda brought it down to 2, and really get the edits i wanted, but all in all, considering the time spent on it, it turned out ok.

Re: hair salon audition tape

Wow! Love the editing and lots of the shots and aftereffects stuff.

Where are you located in Canada, Rhydon?

Re: hair salon audition tape

I live in Niagara On The Lake, Ontario. About an hour out of Toronto. Il be posting some other films ive done in the past later this week. Norm_Li, its kinda funny cause the budget for the film(and the deadline) would only allow for the 2 days of editing. I never had a chance to bring anything into AE. Except for the masking (with the name titles. I separated the background from the character and animated them separate ways), which was done in combustion (i found it faster when you need a quick mask). But everything else you see there is strictly all in FCP. I think if i did ever change it, i would of added a polished glass look to it, much the same as the CSI miami opening.

Re: hair salon audition tape

hi Rhydon-
I liked your clip alot! great look and feel to it.

you can use your .mac account to show movies, any size you want. You do this by creating an "external html" page. Do not put your movie file in the "movies" folder. The compression and size and a bunch of other things are out ofyour control if you put it there.

Put your external html page and your movie file in the "Sites" folder.

If you need some of the basic code to do that, let me know.

To add your external html page to your homepage :

homepage, go to "Advanced"> External Html> then pick the page you just made>publish

maybe that is helpful? if you dig around your .mac materials, directions, literature, etc. you will find lots of little ways to use your account more.

Re: hair salon audition tape

Here one more name to watch out for.
Highly stylised work. Great job in editing. Keep it up!!!

Re: hair salon audition tape

Posting your file to your Movies folder will not change your size or compression. Creating a page from a movie page template will only *display* the movie at a smaller scale in that window. But it's not necessary to create an external html page. Instead, just link directly to the file...

i.e. http://homepage.mac.com/Rhydon/.Movies/Storm final5.mov

don't forget the "." before "Movies"

hope that helps you too pooh... ;)
