Hacking the GH1

Even if processor is slow and they can't add b frames just double the data being saved. Go from 17mb to 34 and 30mb jpeg to 60. also make it straight 24p no pulldown. That's all we really need and 480p out over hdmi for monitoring. That would make most happy.

The AVCHD specification doesn't allow for data rates beyond 24mbps.
 
Panasonic can sort this tomorrow, they have a solid avc codec at 21mps and its a High profile codec used in the HMC cams, get to it Panasonic.

It's not just a firmware issue. The HMC has got dedicated hardware to encode H.264 video while the GH1 has a completely different engine. My bet is that the engine in the GH1 is already working at its limits.
 
I doubt it, twin venus processors? come-on, I bet this thing has more grunt than they care to admit! they ahve something holding them back, probably dont want to kill of pro-cam sales. 720p is rock solid at 60fps, not fields frames, it aint that big of a jump to 1080p24
