GH2 hacking for

if i'm only shooting videos for web is hacking the gh2 with high bitrate really necessary? what are the advantages/disadvantages if so? also when editing clips on Premiere pro cs5 is it better to shoot AVCHD or MJpeg say both in the same bitrate? which is faster for premiere to process?

I would say it depends on your intended output resolution/quality and also if you intend on grading. Web these days is HD, 720p+, so despite some extra compression artifacts, the quality bar is being raised more and more. recompressing over compressed footage would probably show up in final output online.

Even at smaller sizes, the increased flexibility in post due to cleaner shadows and overall gradients will be a big benefit with hacking.

So that's something to consider too.

Also consider, if you shoot something really worth while, it'd be nice to keep the source material for future use in it's highest quality that you can obtain. Better to shoot in high IQ now rather than wait years then realize you need to reshoot when your little short gets some big buyer who wants blu-Ray output ;)

yes i intend to color grade my footage, would a higher bitrate help in that situation?

the only time i know im compressing is when im exporting the final out of Media Encoder i usually use the Youtube preset then i up the bitrate a bit by one or two. correct me if im wrong. i also use to shoot at 720p due to my computer processing it much more quickly than a 1080p.

but your right its better to shoot at the highest IQ for future use

cheers
