GH2 Hacked GH2 Impressed in the new Zacuto shootout

I scribbled that I liked F, H, & A, and made some squiggly under B so maybe I thought that was okay, too, but I think I'm with John. I was so bored to tears I wasn't watching too close. I love these DPs, a couple are like heroes of mine, but this is part ONE? There's MORE? This plays like an infomercial that wants to be the "Visions of Light" doc, even Haskell's great advice to "be a person", which should have ended the whole thing, plays almost fake with that serious piano music like it's a Tom Rinaldi piece on ESPN. During the repeated test shots couldn't they have been cracking jokes or something. This is what the summer heat does to me. I reserve the right to take all this back. It's the internet, so that's allowed, right?

Real world value of these cameras will be determined once the reveal is published.
I feel that among all the clips that look "generally fine" then the one from the cheapest camera must be at least considered to be of very high value.

I suspect the GH2 will handily win the dollar to performance ratio.

Unlike many astute and knowledgeable persons here... when I viewed the clips at the nominal few pixels by a few more pixels screen...

I couldn't really tell a damn bit if difference between any of them. Sure there were a bit different lighting in the shadow by the door... a bit different lighting when the black guy sat down..

But I do believe the most significant difference between all of the test clips and <almost anything shown here>... is lighting... and lighting for the camera you're with, and not the one you want...

Perhaps if I could have viewed the comparisons on a big screen, or at least a 50 in screen... perhaps I could begin to see many 'obvious' differences...

Is there a 1080x1920 version available for download?

Are you kidding? There is a world of difference, don't trust your eyes on small screen and on top of that compressed video..

I think they need to decide if they want to put out a camera test or a self-indulgent "cinematographers as heroes" film. I work as a DP and am as passionate about our craft as anyone else, but does the audience for a camera test really need or want 20 minutes of masturbatory back-patting? We didn't really get much about the test methodology, audience reactions, background of those involved, camera info, etc. All we got was a bunch of oddly-framed DPs talking about abstract concepts (preaching to the choir much?) cut to overly dramatic music. Bring on the camera tests!!!! (or if they decide to go in the DP-documentary route, give us some insightful topics).

Synchronicity is amazing. I just posted a big blog that the Red Epic is truly Epic (I always hated the Red One) now that the DLP screens are going to 4 and 8k, but that the GH2 holds its own any day of the week! Now it's about talent. I don't know if this is good or bad news for me personally as after that zacuto video gets released my secret cheap hardware advantage in NYC will be out and as everyone will go running for a hacked GH2 at b&h! On the other hand, perhaps it will now get the real support and respect it deserves on sets and a lot more support gear and workflow help. See my other post for a more detailed rant: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthrea...gital-Film-Making-Finally-Beats-Chemical-Film

As far as all the attacks on the tests and Zacuto... they never seemed to care much about the GH1 or 2 or the hacks and isn't most of their stuff geared for Canon cameras? 5Ds and 7Ds? It's a little but funny to see the Red guys go ape s*%t, but I guess the thought of a little biddy toy looking camera looking so good makes some of them mad. That's why I attach bicycle parts to my GH13 and GH2H when Red or uninformed people are around.. they think bigger and more gears and levers and matte boxes and poles and anything else you can attach to the camera to make it look more complex automatically actually = better image. Sometimes I move so fast with my GH13 and GH2H setups that I can't imagine having to deal with the wait times moving around a big red or arri.... ( http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=3198281808081&set=vb.1597081273&type=2&theater ) - but that's just me. If I had a big crew, and someone else is paying.. why the hell not.

I have to watch it a few times and what happened to the SCALE button is it even in 1080p? Right now I am liking C, then F on the first viewing.

For my 2 cents, I think that having an 'objective' and 'subjective' testsing situation was/is a great idea. In the 'real' world you are lighting for not only your camera but your lens choices and of course, your location/situation. The idea that you are not 'testing the camera' when you are doing significant, custom color correction is going to be part of many workflows and is part of what you have to consider when getting a camera.

I shoot darkly lit theater pieces with a Sony FX-1 picking up the close-ups and the GH2 doing a lock-down WS. And color matching the 2 cameras is still near impossible for me. ( I engineer/shade multi-cam setups for a living, so I do know, in general, how to match cameras.) Nonetheless, I love the image of the GH2 and it's quite nice to see it doing well against the 'Big Boys'.

...And if you canʻt be
With the one you love, honey
Love the one youʻre with
Love the one youʻre with
Love the one youʻre with
Love the one youʻre with...

Yeah, I can only see an embedded Vimeo player. Silly to have internet compression layered on top of a test like this. The video shows as "private" on Vimeo...

I just wrote down camera letters as they impressed me. C E F H

Totally agree. This years test is totally unwatchable.
