Hacked GH1: AVCHD FHD or AVCHD SD with new Black-Powell Patch

Hi, I have just hacked my GH1 with the latest Black-Powell Patch and no problems except playback and recording MJPEG, still not stable and I'm using Sandisk Class 10.
Anyway, AVCHD works great, but my question is that I am planning to shoot a short film and wondering what people opinions are on using AVCHD FHD? or would AVCHD SD be more filmic?
Also, with the new patch will all my AVCHD footage be 24fps as default?
Please if anyone has suggestions on the best mode to use, that would be great! Thanks!

IMHO, if your short is worth it's salt nobody is going to notice what settings you used.
Forget about hack XYZ and concentrate on telling the story.

All the Best!

Hi, yes and my story is good, but the camera settings are also important to get right. My question is more about whether my camera is now shooting in 24fps? Thanks.

If you used the Black-Powell Patch - FHD is the best settings, it is 24fps and can be somewhat unstable with hi detailed and contrast objects. If you uncheck the 24p wrapper you will get a very stable and reliable 29.97 version. Splashlite is a great player for AVCHD and many other files for windows. It can display frame rate and bitrate data for evaluation (control i to display info).

Thanks for your reply rigs. Okay, so if I'm using AVCHD FHD am I correct in stating that it will be 1920x1080p @ 24fps native? Also, if I bring footage into FCP7 will I have to do anything fancy with the sequence settings or am I good to go and edit. Before the hack, I did just log and transfer into Final Cut Pro 7 without issues, so I assume this will not change with the hack.
If I shoot 29.97 am I losing the more filmic 24fps look?

While I don't use the very high Blackout/Lpowell settings on my GH13, I do use pretty hight bitrate settings at native 24 1080p. I have been shooting a short film with these settings and with the right lighting, the image looks spetacular... especially in bright sunlight. In low light areas though (including shadows on a bright sunny day), the codec can't handle the high bitrate and I can see pulsing in the shadows and darker areas. Keep in mind, Blackout has a GH13 that was made in Japan, not China, and as far as I know, his camera doesn't show any pulsing. Good luck with shooting your short film. The wealth of knowledge I have accumulated from the good people here at dvxuser has helped me immensely in shooting my film. By the way, I edit with Premiere Pro and because the files are native 24, I just drag and drop the AVCHD files into the timeline.
