Hacked G2 User Instructions

Hi all,

So I just got a G2 today and I managed to get the ptool hack to work. I upped the bitrate for AVCHD lite, changed the fps to 30, and added manual controls. I'm confused, though, as to whether my hacked G2 is behaving properly. Whenever I go into a PASM setting, if I go into settings/menu and go back to the view screen, the camera automatically switches to Video mode. At this point, if I hit the shutter button, it'll start recording video. In order to go back into picture mode, I have to switch the PASM to something else and switch back. Is this how the manual controls patch is suppose to work? Doesn't this essentially hinder the G2's ability to take still pictures, because every time I go into menu, it'll switch to movie mode?

I have the same issue with my G2. I havn't found a cure yet.

OK, so found a solution that works. create two hacked firmware files. The first with Manual Movie Modes enabled and the second one without. Load the first and save your manual movie settings to custom memory one. Now flash the second without Manual Movie Modes enabled. On my G2 the custom memory one still works as desired for manual exposure but going into the menu in P mode does not cause the above problem any more.

As you've discovered, the way the Manual exposure option for movie mode hack works on the G2 is a little quirky. The easiest way to work with it is to preset the camera with all the settings you need for each movie or still mode, and save them to one of the three Custom slots. This also works with the NTSC<->PAL patch, allowing you to quickly switch between 25p and 30p video modes.
