H4N Zoom Firmware Update

Just discovered on Zoom's website that a new firmware for the H4N Recorder is available. The update: Added the function that recording level of INPUT1 and 2 can be set individually.

One of the biggest drawbacks about the H4N was the levels of Input 1 and 2 were linked. Thanks to this update, you can set the levels of Input 1 and 2 independently. Ta-Da!

Download the update here: http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/download/software/h4n.php

Downloaded and tested. It works great! Two gigs this weekend hope it doesn't brick on me. This is sweet. I like to use the 1/8 inch input for a stereo board mix and use the other two for various mic setups. I have been loving the PZM that sat in my gear bag for years and either a condenser or LAV on the other. This will really help and mean for most gigs I can get away with not bringing a mixer.

If by safety you mean same input source on both channels with one set at a lower volume, then yes. You can now control the input gain independently on the mic input channels.

just did the update and as it turns out, you can't do this because the independent level setting is disabled when you're in mono mix mode.

Yep...found that out 5 minutes after updated. Since I do mostly Docs the update doesn't do much for me but it's still nice to have the option.
