MUSIC VIDEO: H2O / Shot with the Pana AJ-HPX2700 / Heavy Post

Hi everyone,

I've recently directed a 100% independently produced music video, for which I also did the compositing & VFX on my own.

Pretty tough sometimes to work without the help of a production company nor a decent budget, but at least it's not impossible, so I guess that's good enough for me.
If you're interested, you can watch it here (720p strongly advised of course...) :

Thanks a lot for your time, and please feel free to make any comments if you wish !

wow! amazing! I know the band is pleased. you did an awesome job here!
i wish i could ask you some questions about your composting and effects

That's pretty awesome. Lots of elements happening in all of the VFX shots, and they blend well together. The line blurs between footage and VFX. I'm going to come back to this one for inspiration.

Thanks for your reply, John Threat !
Is the band happy with the video? Mmmh... Yes, they seem to be. ;-)

Please feel free to ask me whatever questions you have in mind, I'm glad you're interested in my work and will be most happy to answer !

Justin, thanks also for your enthusiastic reply. It's nice when someone seems to be watching with such close attention. I never thought I'd be providing "inspiration" to anyone with this video. Pretty gratifying, to say the least !

Hi Mitch, thanks for your comment.
Not easy to assess the exact time spent on this, as it was an on and off thing, during 10 months, in between real jobs... and real life.

But by adding all the bits one after the other, I'd say the total production time, from shooting to the end of post, would be around 4 months. Although it may sound like a long time for a music video, I have to underline the fact that I was almost completely on my own once the editing was done. The only thing I didn't do myself is the 3D tracking on one shot, and the creation of the little creature's 3D model. I also spent a lot of time on the keying.
I guess that in an average production situation, I'd have at the very least one assistant for the keying process.
And with a decent post-production team, the whole video could be done in 5 to 6 weeks... although who gets to have a decent team on a music video nowadays...? :-/
