H.A.R.D. 2 is the second short film in the series of H.A.R.D. films that provide a cup of action, spoonful of comedy, and a hint of cool camera work with the DVX100.

This video also features my brand new car, the well talked about, 2004 Toyota Prius Hybrid. Check out the video at the link below and let me know what you think about the camera work, the car, or the humor...

Loved shooting out the scooter wheel. That was entertaining.

Okay first of all if your going to 'lip snyc' WHAM! learn the lyrics. When I was your age I would stand in front of the mirror after practicing for hours every nuance of George Michaels gyrations.... er.... cough cough.... nevermind! nevermind! Forget anything I just said! METALLICA RULES! ARggggRGGGghhhhH!!!!

I like this kid. He's making films. Awesome. I can only hope my son wants to be a filmmaker (or a professional athelete).

Some tips:

Learn when to cut. Shots of you driving to the house, getting out of the car, rounding the corner of the stucco, approaching the front door can all be done in about a 1/3 of the time. When you get the point across CUT IT. (Car pulls up to house (establishing shot of what a nice house it is) and then BAM! Cut to the INT shot of dude coming in front door.

Maybe you can have dude picking up the newspaper that was left on the driveway or grabbing the kids bike that he left on the lawn to establish that THIS IS MY HOUSE and I PAY THE BILLS!

Same for the stairwell. How many shots can we have of the dude WALKING UP THE STAIRS? Damn, just have a shot from the top or bottom and have the dude go up.

And what the hell?! DO your parent know the heighborhood girl is in their bed?! My dad busted me once in his bed with his dates daughter when I was 16 and... sorry.. nevermind...

Now shooting the cheating whore I completely agree with.

Did that kid have a RON JON shirt on? OMG I used to have one of those! :D

You do action actually pretty well. I enjoyed the chase sequence while not each shot is the correct choice I gotta say NOT BAD AT ALL.

I laughed out loud when the kid was like "Prius Hybrid?!" cause Id actually stop and say the same thing while being chased; no really I would. Id be like "Prisu Hybrid? People own these?"

And then the dude on the scooter is going the same speed. LMAO right now.

Id liked to see some more locked down shots as the cinema verite (DOnt you hate when people say that? Its like i know this really cool secret french word that no one knows what the **** Im talking about when you can just say hand-held and not sound like some arrogant ass monkey self worshipping artist?) gets old.

Whos lawn is that? I can here it now:

FRANK "Theres the neighbor kids driving on the lawn again"

MARTHA "Oh knock it off FRANK. Theyre young and having fun. You know we were young once. WINK WINK" and then theres Viagra and.... sorry

All seriousness aside (Too late) not bad. I enjoy your films and you have talent. Keep shooting and keep studying to see what works and what doesnt. Lock the camera down, compose your shots.

I look forward to more work!

Re: H.A.R.D. 2 (feat. the 2004 Toyota Prius Hybrid

Alright, thanks for the post, but let me just clear soem stuff up. First of all, we did not mean to lip synch to WHAM! The kid in the car was filmed with no music at all and he just moved his mouth to nothing. lol. It was really stupid, and we ended up putting WHAM! in post.

The next thing, cuts don't have to be so quick. Liek when you said about the guy walking into the house and it being 1/3 the time, I don't think you have ever seen "Elephant" or "Rosetta". They leave the shots there for an amazing amount of time that it doesn't need to be, but in the end what this does is make it a little more dramatic and it builds up suspense.

On to the next thing... that girl IS MY DAMN SISTER! LOL!!! AAAH!! She is only 12 years old man! what the hell are you thinking!!!! We just got her because she was the closest girl on the set while we were filming.

We make these videos up on the spot. We never prepare or pre-plan these vidoes, because we do them for fun. Everythign in this video and all of our other CSP videos are practically improv.

Anyway, thanks for the comments, I am not trying to say you are wrong, but I just wanted to clear some stuff up that you said which was not true. We are planning on makign another little HARD video with a lot of action and stuff, and this time we are going to have some girls with sexual roles I think. Well, stay tuned and I hope you guys look forward to more of my action/comedy movies. Thanks for the comments!

Re: H.A.R.D. 2 (feat. the 2004 Toyota Prius Hybrid

lol, that was actually one of the more impressive things i've seen on this site.

I usually look at how filmy it looks and just bypass content (sorry guys, I can't help it, im enamored by the abilities of this camera). As far as that goes, you get an F, but damn if I didnt literally luagh out load on more than one occasion, and so far nothing on this site has gotten me to that point.

Congrates! Keep making movies and posting the, i cant wait to see what we get next!

I was kidding about the lip synching but in seriousness it would have been better if dude was actually synching to the actual music it would have been better.

The next thing, cuts don't have to be so quick. Liek when you said about the guy walking into the house and it being 1/3 the time, I don't think you have ever seen "Elephant" or "Rosetta". You're the artist.  You do as you see fit.  I made this comment only because it felt drawn out.  I can see exactly what you mean by 'adding suspense' and you are correct except instead of a bunch of cuts of the same exact shot why not build the suspense in a more narrative style?  I.E. Man stops to pick up paper; maybe has some words with a neighbor; maybe stops to watch a hot chick jog past; maybe gets a briefcase out of the truck?  Something narrative that warrants hanging onto the shot and not just showing the same shot from a different angle.

Yes, it was apparent that she was 12 years old.  What am I thinking?  You cast her in the part!

We make these videos up on the spot. We never prepare or pre-plan these vidoes, because we do them for fun. Everythign in this video and all of our other CSP videos are practically improv.

It was obvious that it had an improvisational feel.  Reminds me of my first films:  Dude walks through forest, dude stumbles upon bad guy, they fight, one has gun, chase....

Still, fun stuff.

Take nothing I said in the above post too seriously.  Jeez man, it was a rant.  Again, just opinions and you are the artist and it is your work.  Consider a little planning on the next one and take some time to compose your shots adding a variety of styles; locked down, stabilzed, hand-held, dolly style as I think you will be pleased with the final results.

or dont.  Its your film.  I do look forward to more work from you guys; its obvious your having fun and I wish everyone remembered how much fun making films are.

Re: H.A.R.D. 2 (feat. the 2004 Toyota Prius Hybrid

Re: H.A.R.D. 2 (feat. the 2004 Toyota Prius Hybrid

of coarse theres a ton of stuff you can do for a more professional look, too many to list plus Im not an expert myself.

One thing is hand held stuff. Hand held stuff in the movies is used often for a feel of chaos or voyeristic feel, but unfortunatly for us it just screams amature video when we use it. If you hav a tripod try using it as much as possible. in fact try using it all the time, if you pick it up and hold the base instead of the camera, its a natural stablizer (kinda). And if ur occasionally in that construction kinda mood, you can make a dolly really inexpesivly and relativly easy. http://homebuiltstabilizers.com/ (under 'Tips')

Also, u've doen stuff in post. Maybe try some more subtle effects, like color correction.

anyway, hope i didnt insult u or anything, just wanted to explain that even though i wasnt looking for it, I found ur movie extremly entertaining! ;D

Re: H.A.R.D. 2 (feat. the 2004 Toyota Prius Hybrid

Good points Cheesesailor77.

I think one can obtain 'follow' shots nicely using a tripod; not hand-held yet not static either.

Color correction is always key in adding a stylized feel.

Re: H.A.R.D. 2 (feat. the 2004 Toyota Prius Hybrid

;D This was funny. I can definitely see you doing an "All That" type show. It's the slapshhhtick Nickelodean kids comedy. My little sister LOVES it. Good luck!

JOHN, I love your rants man!!! I just had this conversation!!!My words coming out of your mouth:
"(DOnt you hate when people say that? Its like i know this really cool secret french word that no one knows what the **** Im talking about when you can just say hand-held and not sound like some arrogant ass monkey self worshipping artist?)"
I don't care if you can sing. You're my American Idol. LOL ;D ;D

Re: H.A.R.D. 2 (feat. the 2004 Toyota Prius Hybrid

This is pretty good for a made-up-on-the-spot video. I really enjoyed watching it, the action sequence was nicely cut. The "slow" cuts when the guy drives up to the house and walks in add some nice contrast to what comes next; He's having a great day and then.....boom. I thought it was sequenced nicely. I wouldn't change it.

Re: H.A.R.D. 2 (feat. the 2004 Toyota Prius Hybrid

Re: H.A.R.D. 2 (feat. the 2004 Toyota Prius Hybrid

Here is one of those examples of 'content trumps technical presentation'.

I laughed my ****ing ass off, right from the beginning. Right away, when the guy driving home is grooving to that 80's tune, I'm laughing.

In the house, it's adultery, with a chubby kid, and I'm laughing.

He escapes in a Prius, with a guy on a scooter going just as fast, and I'm laughing.

Shooting out the front wheel of the scooter is genius. Again, I'm laughing.

People, this is story-telling. Screw the color correction, screw the worries about lingering staircase shots. I'm laughing. all the way through.

Enough said.
