GY-HD100 rivals

Well, about 16/9 SD camcorders, the XL2 seems to be a rival of the JVC...

Considering HD, the Sony might be a rival....

The XL2 is somewhat alike in formfactor (very - very shallow observation, I know)...

But seriously, first of all, I thought the XL2 would stop selling, because this JVC came out and it seemed all the same - but better and more. Until someone pointed out these two camcorders aren't a quite the same price point. (The JVC costs roughly double the Canon - over here that is). Same story with the sony. The JVC is seriously more expensive (about €2000, VAT in).

Considering the price. I don't know any rivals... Anyone?
Or do I have this topic all wrong?

I think you'll be waiting a long, long time for that.

As far as a shoulder-mount, interchangeable-lens HD camera, the JVC will remain unrivaled until Canon decides to step in (2007 maybe?) I do expect that Sony will eventually launch a DSR250-style version of the Z1, but even if they do it won't offer the interchangeable lens.

We could all launch a petition to Jan to make a shoulder-mount, interchangeable-lens version of the HVX as well... but I'm sure she wouldn't even pay attention to it until the current HVX is released! ;)

Maybe they could just break off the current HVX lens and throw a lens mount on it. :)

Give me a ring when you get yours and I'll bring my hacksaw around

A few people have done exactly that with an FX1 - braver men than me!

November/December 2005. XL H1

That's the way Canon has always launched product (secretly). Panasonic should learn a couple of things from Canon about launching a new product I think!

Look at the ad on the back page of this month's American Cinematographer.. expensive I'm sure, but interesting...

Sadly, all the information I've read indicates this camera is only 1080i [1440X1080] and offers an emulation of film motion in what they are calling 30F/24F modes.

Lets not and say we did. Lets not make any suggestions that might confuse the issue.
