GH4 Gx8 is my next camera.

While not a commercial videographer, I've been wanting a 4K to use with my m43 & Nikkor lenses. The G7 came close (I realize that every camera has short comings). But I love the Range Finder look (Old and Old fashionJ). If the specs on m43 rumors are correct it might be a perfect “B” roll for those who use the Gh4. I am looking at this camera to be my video camera among my EP5/D7000/D7100 and believe that Panasonic might have hit a home run with the GX8 as they did with the Gh4.

These are the rumored specs if you have not seen them:

– Newly developed 20.3MP Live MOS sensor
– Highest sensitivity ISO25600
– Newly developed Venus Engine
– 6 control camera shake correction system “Dual IS”
– Multi-process noise reduction, three-dimensional color control
– 4K Video · 4K photo (30fps)
– 4K photo three modes (4K burst, 4K burst start-stop, 4K pre-burst)
– Large of 2.36 million dot organic EL EVF. Contrast 10000: 1.
Magnification 0.77 times
– The back of the monitor organic EL 104
万 dot. Free Angle
– Dust and water. The body is rugged magnesium alloy build
– More easy to hold grip
– High-speed AF which adopted the DFD.
AF speed is 0.07 seconds
– Continuous shooting of AF tracking 6 frames / sec.
– Starlight AF corresponding to the darkness of the moonlight of -4EV
– Improved the stability of the video AF
– Maximum speed of mechanical shutter is 1/8000 seconds.
1/16000 seconds with electronic shutter
– Silent shooting to use the electronic shutter
– Synchro speed is 1/250 sec
– Wi-Fi, NFC, QR code connection

Looks great! As does the brand new Sony RX-10 II that Andrew Reid has pretty much gone nuts over, even with it's 1" sensor, but full sensor 4K, and in spite of the 17mp 16x9 down-sampled frame, has minimal moire and the least rolling shutter skew he's seen for a non-global. And pretty astounding slo-mo options with its ultra-fast sensor readout. Not to mention the color...

"The 4K S-LOG of this camera appears to very closely match the dynamic range of the Sony A7S in S-LOG and it grades almost identically.

This makes the RX10 M2 a very attractive B-camera for A7S owners with outstanding dynamic range, yet with the benefits of a built in ND filter, internal 4K and a very long 10x Zeiss zoom (fixed f/2.8, ed.). The base ISO is 800 in S-LOG mode rather than 3200 on the A7S.

The 2nd positive surprise comes from the 1080/120fps* mode. The image quality of this 120fps is outstanding and matches the 1080/24p output of the A7S. The best yet from any consumer camera."

GX8 looks great on paper. I foresee a GH5 coming soon with the same sensor, but with a better body and more video orientated options like microphone inputs and headphone outputs, etc. That will be the camera I upgrade to from the GH3.

If you don't need those, then the GX8 looks to be great!
