On the HPX170 recording modes I have 1080i/25p - which is progressive?

Then I have 1080i/50i which is interlaced?

So what does the 1080i actually mean? I was thinking "i" meant interlaced? But obviously not.??

25p = progressive
50i = interlaced

The 1080i/25p is a confusing naming convention. The 25 progressive frames are actually recorded embedded in a 50i interlaced stream, but it's a difference that makes no difference. When you put the footage in your NLE it will automatically restore the footage to full progressive frames. It's like you're temporarily carrying your progressive footage in an interlaced basket.
