Some of you may have seen this already via HV20.com

Originally made in less than 11 hours with in-camera editing for the 2008 Geelong Shootout 24hr film contest. This is such a tough but fun competition.
Please don't take this backgound information as an excuse, merely a fact.

In-camera editing means you have to shoot it chronologically - no computer editing and hard drive camera editing is also frowned upon.
It's pretty tough and you are always worried about getting the right edit point. Or accidentally taping over the completed section (nerve-wracking). I don't know of any other competition that has this requirement but I like it, real guerilla filmmaking..

You have to include 5 “things” from a list of 15 including dialogue, local locations or objects revealed at the start of the competition. One of these had to be in your opening shot.

My wife and I went interstate with only a camera, half an idea and no crew but managed to pull something together. We are not pro or trained, just amateurs and felt embarrassed to ask people to join our team but had to in the end.

We recruited some local lads from an agency (free of course) and were very happy that they enjoyed the process and hadn’t felt we had wasted their time. We couldn’t get an actress so my wife bravely stepped in but she admits her performance isn’t very good

Sorry to all the purists out there but with so much pressure to produce something in such a short timeframe I mostly just left everything on auto and only used available light. It’s also only shot in SD as not sure if the festival could screen in HD. Could have done with some sort of polarising filter especially since there are glass window shots (why didn’t I think of this before hand?)

NOTE: This version has been edited (Directors Cut) but being originally in-camera edited you can only subtract footage due to there being no other to add. It’s a lot tighter and thus better for the minor changes made.

Anyway enjoy: http://www.vimeo.com/1912463

…..yes it’s a bit corny but I was very happy with our very small teams effort in such a short time.

What, no comments.

Have I achieved perfect mediocrity, neither bad enough to be scorned nor good enough to be praised.

Seriously though, any feedback or suggestions welcome.
