Guerilla35 vs. Micro35

Hi guys,

I know Brian and Jonathan will definitely read this thread but I just want to voice my thoughts after reading every single post on both their websites and watching every single video released so far.

I'm sure they are both great products but so far, I personally feel that the G35 seems to render sharper more film-like images than the Micro35. I feel that the Micro35 is always shy of being in focus or...I don't know, it feels a little fuzzy IMHO. Maybe it's just what has been released so far or the lenses that have been used but I just can't seem to be convinced to click the order button yet with what I have seen. I hope with the flood of orders with the M2 that has been placed and the posts with videos soon to saturate the message boards, I can come up with my decision on whether to wait and buy the G35 or go ahead and purchase the M2.

I think the following videos (which have been posted here and there on different forums) really shows the quality of even a beta G35 with just a Sony FX1 non-24p. I'm excited to see the final production unit used in conjunction with a DVX or the new HVX.

Tough call. However, hats off to Brian and Jonathan for producing such great products for the indie filmmaking community.

Any comments or any shared opinions from anybody?

Thanks,

P.S> Brian, If I order the indie bundle, you can't order a PL mount along with a Nikon mount or it has to be a SLR mount only? How much extra would it be to place an order on a PLmount BTW? Thanks!

I like both but I would have to go G35 just for the fact that I shoot on the field ENG style. I just can't imagine myself carrying the M2 all around. I would love to attach the G35 to my Sony DSR-300...but it is a 82mm thread.....crap. Any solutions for larger lenses that the one used by the DVX?

Norm bye,
I always liked the footage from the micro35 better but i am stillholding out. i would have bought the thing back in February and offered to send money but no one responded. I also like to shoot ENG style so I need to look into the G35 and see some more. Would love to use my 35mm LOMO prime lenses though.

Hi everyone,

Norm: Jonathan has some good shooters doing things for him. We haven't released any M2 footage yet, but you're right to wait and see what comes out. There are a lot of people who will be posting shortly on that.

Also, we have interchangeable lens mounts - you can have both cinema mounts (PL, OCT 19) and SLR mounts (Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Minolta, Olympus) interchangeable on the same adapter. Feel free to email me directly if you have more questions bvalente@redrockmicro.com

Earon - we would have loved to take your order in feb (although I wasn't on board with Redrock at that time), but we didn't start taking orders until June. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have as well.

g35 - what does it look like - any pictures?

I would love to see what the G35 looks like. any ideas? the micro35 and the mini35 seem pretty cool, but i like the "no moving parts" only optical solution.

Greetings everyone,
This is a weird and hard time to compare two VERY different technologies. I thank you for your compliments. Since both of our companies are different places in development I would urge people to wait for a side-by-side pro review. That is really what is going to help you all in your decision. As for the caliber of shooters we have working with our adapters, well, I can assure you Darius Khondji is not knocking down my door to use this thing. Yes, all of the people we have sold units to know how to use a camera. However, none of them (as far as I know) have ever used a Mini35. It just goes to show how easy it is to use and get nice images.

As for photo's I'm really sorry. There are some photos floating around here of the prototype, however, the production units are under lock and key as it is VERY easy to lose leverage with patens if you release too much too early. I can tell you that it is small and relatively simple. 5" long and weigh less than 1lb. Thank you all again and please e-mail me if you have any questions.

Cheers!

The smallest we can adapt to is 52mm. We may or may not have provision for threaded attachment with the production units. The 52mm applies to the pre-production units.

Huh? i'm a bit confused.......
so the pre-production models are able to screw on to a Panny using a 72mm (Pan) to 52mm (G35) step down ring?
How about the new model? WIthout going into too much detail for patent reasons...is this some sort of attachement ala bayonet style?

Thanks

Sorry for the confusion. The Production models will first be offered only with the DVX100 bayonet mount. Then we will offer XL series and Z1 series right after. The HVX mount will be offered right before the release of the HVX. All mounts will be able to be used on your 1 guerilla35. Now, the Pre-production units are thread mounts in any size from 52mm to 72mm. Let me know if you have any other questions. Feel free to e-mail me at jon@guerilla35.com. Thanks!

Jhouser, please for the love of God !!!! do not omit canon FD lens mounts!!!! i have 4 FD lenses, and love them to death!

I read on the FAQ you are supporting them, but please dont drop them last minute!

I recently got to see short I directed for the 48 hour film project projected on a big screen, and I have to say that the micro 35 holds up damn well on the big screen, damn well.

FYI the micro35 has been tested on lenses as small as 37mm, works on all the cameras just described, and supports Canon FD, Canon EF (EOS), Pentax, Minolta, Nikon, Olympus (no takers on Olympus yet :) ), PL and OCT 19. They are also interchangeable, so you can use more than one type of mount

Cheers

No mounts will be dropped from the list. If anything we will be adding mounts. We are just working with the wholesale purchase of those other mounts (Leica M etc.) so that it will be an affordable option.

Hi! I'm a bit confused. Could I use a lens kit I have (28mm, 50mm, and a zoom 70/210mm) used on a manual 35mm Pentax with the Guerrilla/Micro 35? And also a Zoom from a Canon EOS, which is automatic?

And finally, could I use the Guerilla/Micro 35 with my Chrosziel 4x4 mattebox with rods?

Thanks a lot for the info.

BTW I have seen footage absolutly amazing, AMAZING! Congratulations for your work on these adapters boys.

Yes, you can for the micro35. The micro35 has lens mounts for Pentax, Canon FD, Canon EOS, Nikon, and minolta, an addition to cinema lens mounts for PL and OCT 19.

Also, our bundles include a rod support system which is standard 15mm rods and will support matte boxes from Chrosziel, Century Optics, CAVision, and pretty much any matte box that has 15mm spec.
