guerilla 35

Jhouse, I have a question, have you ever used the micro35? If you have, could you tell me from your opinion on both lenses, which one would be better for someone wanting to make films. Thanks.

There will be a comprehensive side by side done by a non biased 3rd party soon after the release of our product. That would be the best judge. Thanks!

Hey J.

Poor jHouser..... he is being badgered by impatient guys like us.....

Dont worry dude, you will be a God when this thing is released. Take ALLLLL the time you need. Make it worth every penny. I appreciate a finely crafted product.

I have already begun assembling a collection of lenses...... i bought three yesterday... and plan to buy 2 or three more..... Droooool.

This is gonna be awesome.

Sorry coffee, were on our own on that one.

Hey J, any chance we could use Medium format lenses? like i know someone wit han F2 Hassselblad 70 mm(? maybe 100) and that would be the ulitimate in sharpness.

Cuz if not i'm gonna have to get the micro or rent the mini, but want to see g35 footage before that. November?

Hmmmm todays date is December 10, 2005,,, And this talked about g35 is still in pre-production. I am almost believng that it wont be out till Dec 10, 2006.

well, guess we'll have to wait 'till end of december05 to see if it will be out by then. looks like a really good product.

There seems to be a call for which lense s best.

This is for the guys who never shot 35mm Photography with a manual cam.

From expeirnce, Nikon lenses are very good. so are Canon FD's. I prefer FD just because i like my AE1 Program.

FD's are very sharp, with no chromatic problems or image artifacting ( the ones made by canon anyway). Plus you can find them used for cheap. ( under 300$ for a 55mm F 1.2, im not telling you where cause i mgonna buy it once i get the cash, hehe)

Also, when buying used lenses, look through them backwards at a light to see defects. but the weird thing is, scrates and stuff really dont effect the lense too much. they only show up on film if you get a direct light lense flare.

Look for things like air bubbles in the glass and chips or cracks ( duh). they will cause a problem. But a speck of dust wont even show up on Film ( or the G35) unless its HUGE, and dead center between two elements of glass.

Nikon lenses are great, and they tend to handle half and quarter stops better.
(ae1 people know what im talking about. the canon lenses kinda havea ratcheting action when you turn the apeture its eitehr F2 or F2.4 or F2.8) I am not too familiar with nikons, but my dad tells me they havea smoother apeture and you can kinda dial in any apeture you need and thats why they are better. ( hes a Nikon/pentax guy)

If you dont know, when you use an apeture thats really wide like F1.4 or F1.2, focus will become VERY difficult becuse you will get really shallow DOF. And i mean REALLLY shalow Dof. itsl ike literally 1 or 2 inches of space in sharp focus when youre within 7 or 8 feet, further than that the DOF increases but doesn't go to infinity till about 30 feet. But when youre shooting a 50mm F1.4, 7 or 8 feet is a medium shot. top head to belly button kinda shot. you wil be choosing between the ears and the nose being in focus for frontal shots, and if your actor leans forward a couple inches, on a tightshot with a non wide angle prime lense he WILL go out of focus. theres no more DV DOF to give you some wiggle room. but cinematographers havebeen dealing with that for ever. that justmeans you have to be good directors and have good actors.

That being said, the low resolution of DV might forgive a small focus error. We shall have to see when the G35 comes out..

Also if you guys cant afford it, you dont REALLLY need a matte box. they sell these screw on rubber cup lense shades for 10$. They dont really do a great job, but its better than nothign. Plus a littel true 35mm lense flare is kinda cool..... at least on the first couple projects. then it will get lame real quick. But ive been taking photos for years with no matte box, and had no major problems. totaly up to you guys.

Hope this helps. justso you get an idea of what youre gonna be dealing with.
