Grown Ups - DON'T SEE IT

Alright I'm saving you all $10 here.

Saw this movie yesterday and it could not have been worse. 99 % of the jokes fell flat on their face. How do you put this cast together and get such a bad, bad movie? It's like they all signed up for it without reading the script, probably thinking "well he's doing it, I'll do it". It's hideous from start to finish.

I love every sandler movie from Billy Madison to Punch Drunk Love to Bedtime Stories. This movie has now shown me the world is not a nice place.

It's not even worth renting on video. Wait until it's on free to air tv and it's raining outside and all the restaurants are closed and all your friends have left town and you're cable is down and your psp is out of batteries.

I give it 1 out of 5 stars. That 1 star is for Selma Hayek in her swimmers.

Lot's of scenes just 'ended' too. Bad editing, directing or screenwriting, take your pick.

I haven't seen it and don't plan to but it's going to have a $40m ish weekend, over double what tom cruise cameron diaz movie is going to do ($19m for the 3 day weekend).

Just saw it...yeah, I was pretty weirded out by the combos of over-cranking, plus many musical montages and strange edits/abrupt endings. It wasn't really funny. But there was kind of a strange sappy heartwarmingness to the whole thing. I have a gentle attitude towards dark air-conditioned movie theaters, ice cream and pop-corn on lazy saturdays with a hangover though, so tougher critics should probably opt out.

I haven't seen it but I couldn't imagine this film not being funny. Rock and Spade being in the same movie with Rob Schneider made me want to see this. I'm not a big Rob Schneider comedy nut but "Deuce Bigalow" made me a fan. The total absurdity of it worked well. On his IMDB I notice he's been in a few Sandler fims. Could this have been a project have been a case of, "Hey, let's get the friends together and kick it, and let's make a movie while we're at it."

Their first big mistake was getting all these guys together then making it PG. Downhill from there.

I just don't understand. Presumably, they all know how to read a script and critique the value of it? Or if they don't, surely they must have assistants? People? Family members? agents, managers or friends they can trust? How about the pipeline? Anyone at the studio watch or read the script? Watch the dailies? How could this movie get a summer weekend opening and be so horrifically bad at the same time? SOMEbody must have known, "egads. this is a stinker." What do the lead actors think when they see this at the premiere? Do they see it at the premiere first? Or do they get to watch it before the premiere to gauge it's collaborative success? I just don't understand how this can happen with a solid-ish plot, if not simple. A great lead cast of comedians. It seems to me they didn't have to do anything to strike gold here. I don't get it.

Correlating summer box-office success with quality is foolish at best. See…

Transformers
Transformers (The Second One)
Twilight: New Moon
Twilight: Eclipse
(Just to name a few.:)

In fact, quality and marketplace success are rarely intertwined.

There was a script?

Stephen all those movies were at least coherent and some might even say good. Thing about grown ups is that it sucked so badly on every single level (except Selma in her bathing suit as mentioned earlier).

Oh, I'm not defending Grown-Ups, mind you. Just reminding folks that summer movies making money and being "quality movies" have nothing to do with each other.

Sad, but true.
