Perhaps with the help of several, I can get a simple description of each of these things. I have a basic understanding of lighting, but I would like to know more clearly what all of these things are and what their function is. Our company is seriously considering buying a truck in the next six to twelve months.

Thank you in advance to anyone taking the time to help flesh out this list:

- tracks
- dolly
- c-stands
- long arms
- C-STANDS W/STAIR LEG
- C-STANDS w/GRIP HEAD & ARM
- LONG ARMS
- 2.5 GRIP HEADS
- 4.5 GRIP HEADS (LOLLIPOPS)
- SKY-HIGH ROLLERS
- MOMBO COMBOS
- COMBO STANDS (3-RISER)
- LOW COMBO STANDS
- basic lighting rigs
- flags and everything that entails
- genny
- basic ext. electrical/cables
- lighting expendables
- sand bags
- shot bags
- apple boxes
- silks
- ladders
- risers
- doorway dolly’s

Your company is considering purchasing a Grip Truck but you have no idea what a C-Stand is? Or a Dolly?

I'll get you started and let the other's chime in:

Apple Box - The Catering Truck. (originally served apples and other fruits to crew in the silent days)

Dolly - Nickname for female production crew members. Especially the well endowed ones, ie Dolly Parton.

Genny - nickname for the not so well endowed female crew members.

Long Arms -- As in "long arm of the law", refers to cops that bust unpermitted productions.

Mombo Combo -- sleeping with two or more extras at the same time.

ladders - a incredibly innovative piece of equipment designed to take it's operator someplace up or down.

You guys are naughty! Thanks for the link Khmuse.....I had been wondering about blondes for some time. The ASCs in American Cinematographer mag seem to love them, but......(add your own joke here).
:engel017:

risers - old term for Viagra
dolly - see above
silks - dress up dolly
SKY-HIGH ROLLERS - 2 dolly's
genny - what a doll-y
doorway dolly’s - cheaper than the regular dolly
sand bags - former dolly's
shot bags - worn out dolly
flags and everything that entails - road kill, no dolly
tracks - something to tie dolly to

Grip Tape = Great for Skateboards!!

Mombo Combos = The new Combos that just came out. They are twice the size of the old combos.

Tracks = See Courtney Love's Arms

Risers = New drug street slang for taking 1 Viagra, 1 Cialis, 1 Levitra, and 1 Enzyte.....crushing them up into a fine powder. Cooking them into a fat rock, then smoking it. Erections are nearly instant and last for days!!

Let us know if you need any further help with these items.

Flags - Used to signal the dolly (flag colors tell dolly what you want to do)
C-Stand - Used to hold the flag that signals the dolly
Lollipops - Takes the place of the "afterward" cigarette

-basic lighting rigs- audio gear

-2.5 GRIP HEADS- well, I'll use it in context, and let you decide the meaning:

"Man, that Dolly gave me the best grip head of my life last night!"

"Oh yeah? That's nothing. You see those two extras over there? Well they gave me 2.5 grip heads before I combo momboed them last night."
"Sweet!"

I always thought a C stand was a pretty ample woman who stood by your side to make you look cooler than you actually are. Thanks for clearing this up.

So this has been a pretty funny thread, and I loved some of the feedback ... especially resevoirs' comment about Tracks: Courtney Love's Arms.

Seriously though, did this person start this as a joke, or were they serious about putting up THOUSANDS of dollars for something they felt they may need, but didn't know what any of it was? Sure, I've got some Q's about some of the jargon terms used, but I'll google it first, or ask one at a time here & there .... not put out an entire shopping list of words I want defined.

But, that's just me.
