Did anyone at all realize that the films were also parodies of their own style that made them famous? Seriously, there's so many parallels and self-references. Planet Terror's El Wray seems to be a parody/reference of the El Mariachi character. There's a dialogue scene in a coffee shop with the girls in the second hald of Death proof that's shot exactly the same was the opening scene in reservoir dogs, and Rosario Dawson's character mentiones how instead of having sex with her boyfriend, she lets him give her foot massages, also feet shots (even the first shot in the movie is a shot of feet).

Everyone keeps complaining how Death Proof is just a lot of boring dialogue and a couple action scenes, unlike Tarantino's previous films, despite the fact that that's what his pre-Kill Bill films were. really, Reservoir Dogs has maybe...two action scenes (the ear-cutting/beating of the cop, when Mr. White shoots up the cop cars). Jackie Brown has no action, and Pulp Fiction, though it has more than Reservoir Dogs, is certainly much more of a talking heads movie than an action movie. I really can't understand why everyone is complaining about a Tarantino film having "lots of boring dialogue and little action".

i loved it and yes you can see QT foot fetish quite visible in this film. lots of feet shot no one talks about how see that editing job was when the first big acxtion scene happen man that was classy. and the shots with th car chase man he knws he just knows it.

Ok... Just got back from seeing Grindhouse down at the Mann Chinese Theatre. First time being there, beautiful theatre, and a great crowd to boot! Here are some of my thoughts.

Planet Terror:
Loved it. Action, action, action! Rodriguez all the way. And I'll tell you what, I think Robert can write some pretty cool dialogue to boot... just loved this one.

Death Proof:
I almost fell asleep... while the writing was good, and the nice LONG LONG LONG continuous shot at the diner when they were eating breakfast was genius, I still was bored by the film, and felt the payoff was very weak...

Overall:
I had an enjoyable experience. It was definitely an event, and unlike any movie showing experience I've ever had! Go see it!

reports are coming in this week that, in additon to underperforming at the box office, many people are leaving after Planet Terror -- not realizing a second feature is to immediately follow.

my question to those that have seen Grindhouse: do conventioanl credits roll after PT? or are they held until after DP?

yeah people dont know also I people have complained how crappy the movie looks and missing reels.... People are funny stupid things sometimes.... theaters had to put up signs like this "grindhouse is intentional to have burn and scratches in the film. This is the filmmakers choice since the are a homage to the 1970's look and type of film. The missing reeel is a gag of the film. sorry for the inconvience and just enjoy the film."

people have complained lol.

also like I said most people dont stay for credits of films so they probli just see "the end" and said ok and left thinking the next showing was starting not the next part of the film.

I loved it. I felt completely satisfied after leaving the theater. Mad props to RR and QT.

Why in the hell do my opinions always seem to differ from the masses?

Tarantino's Death Proof kicked the hell out of RR's Planet Terror. I found Planet Terror boring and drawn out. I couldn't wait for it to end. I understand what it was trying to pay tribute to and I wasn't buying it. Here's an idea, how about giving some newcomers, or nevercomers a chance in these films? Hold auditions in some of the more backward areas of Texas and find some really gritty realistic bad actors. Instead RR goes with actors he knows and we all know who are pretty decent at acting so then they're told to act bad... It seems like there's a stupid middle man here. It would not only have added tons of validity to his film, but made a lot of peoples' dream who might not ever have had that kind of chance. I normally love RR so take this however you want with that in mind.

Tarantino's film on the other hand was pretty damned good. I loved absolutely everything up until the whiskey in the glove box. I think the antagonist changed his character far too quickly and it should have all went down a lot colder and more evil from his perspective. I think, or guess because Tarantino was raised by a single mother and always likes to give females some sort of upperhand or position of power. The ending did not do it for me at all. It was like a parent telling a child an awesome bedtime story, but as the parent gets tired he just closes it off with some copout ending closing it too early.

Death Proof's build was incredible. If that was slow for you, you're probably really bad in bed. Two thrusts and whimper huh? Yeah... Anyway the scene in which Kurt Russell flicks his lights is one of the best scenes I've witnessed in years out of a film. It blew my freaking mind it was so well done. My jaw dropped. The editing was superb. Oh my god I'm still moved by that scene. I want to see it again. I hope they DO release it separately so I can just go see Death Proof.

To each his own

I do however agree about the flicking on lights scene in Death Proof. That was freaking genius.

the rodriguez one was pretty fun, though the minute Rose McGowen showed up as a "go-go" dancer, but in a top - eps when they went to the trouble to shot tits in the TRAILER(!!!), I knew I was in for kid's stuff. Though I was impressed that he actually injected some warmth into the relationship between Rose McGowen and Freddy Rod's characters.

Walked out on the Tarantino one. Got up to the second set of girls but then left.

But overall, it's really lame to me that they spent 60mil to make shitty movies esp with all the fake missing reel stuff and the fake scratched film and all. Like I said in another thread, it would have been more fun to me if they had started a project to do real grind house films like every week.

And for the love of God, someone keep Tarantino BEHIND the camera!!!!

Must be because you're a genius and no one gets it but you and oh my god what a lonely life to live as the only intelligent person with taste in the whole world!!!!!

Death Proof was way too long and boring. The dialogue didn't feel right for the girls to me and it was boring, I wanted to see more killing, more slashing - what's a slasher flick where we only see two incidents of attempted killings? Come on!

Planet Terror was freakin awesome and the best missing reel ever.

I agree. I liked how Tarantino eased up on the scratched film thing. It would be different if it were actually scratched up, but it looks all digital like a cheap plugin from Vegas.

I was thinking more along the lines of, "I must be missing something and have bad taste." but if you say so. :)

You walked out on Death Proof? I can't understand why. Maybe your mind was worked up by Planet Terror so much that you couldn't change gears to Tarantino's flick.

Death Proof was BORRRIINNGGGG. Omg. Seriously, I didn't want to sit and listen to girls talk for 45 minutes about nothing. I get it that tatantino likes writing dialoge, but my god....are you serious??? Planet Terror was fun and interesting, and the trailers were awesome.
