It comes out tommorrow, and I can't friggin' wait. I'm taking off work early to catch the afternoon 12 O'clock screening.

I'll post my review then.

Has anyone seen it yet. What did you think?

Do you plan to see it this weekend?

Do you plan to see it at all?

Did it live up to the hype, or was it a major let down?

How were the fake trailers and which were your fav?

I saw it yesterday. It was exactly what I expected (typical Rodrigez and Tarantino) which isn't a bad thing. in fact it's a good thing.

I was quite surprised when I saw the reviews today that people were TRASHING Death Proof saying it was slow and crappy. I disagree wholeheartedly. Out of the two I'd say Death Proof was better. I think the reason why people didn't like it is that it starts out slow after the quite high-pace Planet Terror and that it isn't comic in the same way. The problem is people don't see them as two separate movies but as one long movie and disregard the fact that since it is a double feature there are two completely separate story lines with two completely separate story archs.

when you guys watch Death Proof try to figure out how the hell they did the Ship's Mast stunts. I didn't see any harnesses or anything but there is NO way they did that without some sort of safety net.

go see them both. don't listen to the haters. they are ignorant morons.

Oh... my favourite trailer was Thanksgiving for sure allthough (cencored) as Fu Manchu was pretty hillarious too.

I called the local theaters to see if there would be any midnight showings, but there wont be. Which is funny, because they do it for every other movie, but not the "midnight" type movie. Oh well. I can wait till tomorrow, It's not that far away. I just thought it would be cool to see Grindhouse at midnight. Latest one tomorrow is like ten-something.

I like both directors, but I'm still very back and forth on this film. I suppose I should just see it as an entertaining popcorn flick and maybe that will make the decision earlier.

Still not sure I want to drop $10 on it, but hell, I'll probbaly get roped into seeing it anyway this weekend.

And despite my worries, I'll probably love it.

i'll wait and see what everybody else says about this one. i have no idea what either is about based on the trailers. just looked like a bunch of sh#@ blowing up and a girl with a machine gun leg killing everything.

I'm gonna see it Saturday night...

I have a dumb question: Are those fake trailers gonna play in the theatre? If so, when will they be shown? How many? Are any of them shot on the DVX?

Please let me know.

Thanks

I have a hard enough time sitting in a movie theater for one flick. I don't think my ass could survive two.

Planet Terror was pretty good. Excellent shock value. Ok story.

Death Proof sucked. Boring, boring, boring dialogue. No substance. Just meaningless word play. Chase scene was unbelievable. Why didn't they just stop the car?

The fake trailers were the best part of the whole experience. The most jaw-dropping images you'll ever see.

Tarantino and Rodriquez are like the tortoise and the hare. What the tortoise (Rodriquez) lacks in talent, he makes up in tenacity. In this movie, he leaves the hare (Tarantino) napping under a tree.

omg i saw it today...I had a lot rushing through my head after the movie was over. I was like...wtf just happened? that was cool..ohh man that was gross...

*** SOME SPOILERS ***...maybe...?

Thanksgiving was probably the nastiest trailer. Trampoline anyone? oh god...

but I did like Rob Zombie's entry. That was hilarious.

but for the movies...I liked how they kept the grain look through out the entire movie. Planet Terror had more than Death Proof..maybe cuz it was shot in digital they wanted it more like film? iduno.

But when Planet Terror started...Rodriguez made a biiiiiiiig boo boo as a Director of Photography by shooting directly into a full size mirror. I saw the entire crew and camera.

But none the less. If you have like 2 1/2 hours, see this movie. It's one really crazy trip from beginning to end.

Just came back from Grindhouse. Planet Terror was fantastic fun, the whole theater was howling with laughter pretty much all the way through. Death Proof was a let down (you could feel the boredom in the theater) mostly because it was much more low key than Rodriguez' film. Also, I'm so tired of Mr. T's dialog already. Please. But, by the end, Death Proof had the whole place clapping.

The fake trailers were great, especially, IMO, "Machete".

By the way, the crew in the mirror (which I didn't catch) ... don't you think that was probably intentional?

blckhawk542 - I've been reasearching a lot about Grindhouse and I read that mistakes like the one you mentioned (crew visible in the mirror) were done on purpose because they were mimicking the old Grindhouse flicks that would do the same thing (on accident). Basically, the entire 3 hours is one long tribute (inside joke) to old Grindhouse flicks (the grain, the missing reels, etc.).

I can't believe there's people who didn't get that. I really liked the film. I don't understand what all the hating on Death Proof is about, it was the best of the two films. My favorite fake trailers was Rob Zombie's Werewolf Woman of the SS, and Edgar Wright's Don't trailer. (Anyone notice the shot from Desperado in the Machete trailer, where the camera is looking up at Danny Trejo through the sunroof of a car as he throws machetes into the camera?) I loved how over-the-top Planet Terror was. He really nailed the '80s horror schlock-fest, right down to the look, the synthy music, and the silly makeup. Regardless of which one was better, they're both fun, and they both get you reacting, in different ways.

also done on purpose was one hilarious discontinuity in Death Proof by the bar where Russell on one angle holds his drink and on the OTS shot he's wiping both his hands on a napkin. I thought that was freakin hilarious... as well as the ending.
